Just thought I'd throw this question out there. Say a fellow not unlike my self had 70 Toyota Corolla, full tube chassis, tubbed, strait axle front end, with a big block chrysler. Now the car only weighs 2000 lbs with 18.5x33 mickey thompsons on the back, should I build the motor up naturally asperated or should I just put a 6/71 on it? If I build a natural motor I run the risk of blowing it up and haveing nothing to show for my money. But if I just buy the blower and bolt it to a smogger motor, if it gernades I'm only out the couple hundred dollar smogger motor, and I just have to go pick another smogger bolt the blower on and do it all again!

I wouldnt bother fitting a blower to a motor if you thinks its in poor shape - make sure its running well/strong first, then think about a blower...

after all the blower will stress the engine more, and it may need strengthening anyway, your money may be better spent improving the engine as it is, making it strong enough to take a blower. after all any money spent on NA tuning may be wasted if you later change to a supercharger...(generally forced induction requires smaller intake ports than natural aspiration to get good power - no good having a ported and polished head tuned for NA if your gonna put a blower on it).

plus it may be cheaper/cooler to have it naturally aspirated with the engine concealed under the hood so it looks near stock till you hit the throttle.... it would suprise a few people on the drag strip anyway...

Personally I'd go with turbo charging. With a turbo system you can still keep it all under the hood and the engine will sound fairly 'stock' (for a toyota? ) until you get on the throttle and get those turbos spooling. :firedevil:

somehow, with the big block chrysler I dont think its gonna sound anything like the stock yota....no matter what you do!

having said that the blower can be disconnected via a clutch mechanism....plus turbo's may be a little more complex due to needing to make squiggly exhaust pipes to power the turbo....

How fast are you looking to go?

My 2400 lb. pinto only took about 375-400 hp to run consistent 10.70s and carry the wheels passed the 60' beams.

If you have a 2000 lb. car, with all the suspension and **** done up like you say, you'll do 9s with 400 hp. 8s with probably 550hp or so at the wheels. If you risk ruining the motor n/a at such a low hp level like that, you're doind something wrong. You can make over 600hp with off the shelf stuff on 110 octane.

If you want to go big, build an 11:1 motor with the best bottom-end you can afford, decent heads, intake, and an 850(assuming you're running a 400 or so c.i motor and shifting around 6500-6700) demon. Spray it...250-300 shot will go great with a big lobe seperation cam and a forged bottom end.

You've got big old slicks, so use a t-brake and leave on spray...Probably make750+ hp on a big shot....Most likely go mid-low 8s...If not faster.

Hit me up on AIM(clutchdumper12) and let me know what you want to do...I've done so many cars I can give you real life examples...

 Actually its not a drag car. But man that was one hell of a reply!
The sole purpose of this thing is to just run around town scare a feew people and get a few laughs. I have had quite a few guys including my engine builer trying to convince me to race it once it's done but I really have no interest in racing nor do I have the time with my job. Besides that i think its far too short and high to keep it together at the top end.
The main reason I thought about the blower is because the car has been built to resemble a full scale Ed Roth drawing for starters, and it would really help comlete that look! Second is that I'm really not going to need tons of power for a 2000 lb car to be more then a handfull. With a supercharger I can run a basically stock motor with low boost and still have a good time. And as I said before good running 400's are fairly common still and if it happened to grenaide then I just unbolt the blower and throw another motor in and I'm out cruisin the next day!
I do apreciate the numbers though and do to the fact that I'm computer illiterate could you give me a better idea on how to see some of your stuff?

I would say go with the blower, especially if you're not worried about having a built motor. A car that size with 300hp should be able to kill anything on the street, but the blower would look absolutely cool sitting on top of the motor, and if you are going for that look, then there is no reason not to artificially aspirate, just make sure you take some pictures!

Unfortunatley all the pictures I have aren't digital so I have to get some scanned so i can post em. Right now the car is all in parts so I can paint the chassis. A friend of mine say's he might have some recint pics so I'll see what i can do!
