Well, officially he was gray in most films, but in "Godzilla 2000" (good one) and "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (terrible) he was officially green. The Tri-Star Godzilla was green, blue, brown, and silvery.

BTW, I've used that image of Ferrigno in a couple of Flex/Canceled experiments…

For me, Ferrigno/Bixby will always be the real Hulk. The latest film was surprisingly good so I can accept that one (I despise Ed Norton on a ideological level, but his acting was alright), but Ang Lee's atrocity was an embarrassment for all mankind, and I never could "get into" the comic book.

SNL had a skit in the late 80's that was a fictional made-for-TV movie called "The Big ***** Bull-Dyke Bustout of '89." It was a jailbreak movie where Leona Helmsley and Zsa-Zsa Gabor tunnel out of women's prison and run into Jimmy Baker's tunnel as he's tunneling out of his prison. Meanwhile Tammy-Faye Baker is waiting in a getaway car, and they team up and go on a crime spree. It was pretty funny.

Probably the only criticism I had for it would be the rather age-inappropriate "look at his boobies" comment. That felt pretty out of place. However, I was relieved to see that there were no fart jokes or groin-related violence. A lot of the comedy was pretty good, like when Susan's running across the rooftops and tries to grab the ledge of a building, but she's slipping "Vertigo"-style but <punchline edited for spoilers>. Also, B.O.B.'s mannerisms at the end when he's telling off Derick (with the Jell-O) reminded me of something that Kevin James would do. I really enjoyed it.

Link looks a lot like the former mayor of Anchorage, AK, too, which was some very unintended comedy right there.

I saw "Where the Wild Things Are" on Friday and that was really good, but if you are not familiar with the book you will be lost>

I've heard it was really good, if a little too sophisticated/complicated/emotionally stressful for the original audience the book was intended for. My guess is, though, that it's not for them anyway - it's for the adults that remember the book from their childhood. :nice: I vaguely remember the book, so I'd probably be one of those that would get lost.

The Stray Cat
10-20-2009, 09:08 AM
I must've missed the boobies comment, my 4 yr old son really enjoys when the guy has to scan his butt to clearance for entering the war room.

I fortunately had to read the story to my 6yr daughter last week, then I took her to see it on Friday, she followed along good. It really stays true to the emotional endeavors of the story, they didn't throw alot of pointless stuff in to lengthen the story.

There is a MsvA halloween special on TV on Oct 28th!

Ragnarok
10-20-2009, 09:11 AM
Yeah, the "B.C." happens when Susan is first introduced to the other monsters and Dr. Cockroach tells the others that they're in the presence of "the rare female monster." B.O.B. is a very confused young man/cyclops/gelatin.

The Stray Cat
10-20-2009, 09:15 AM
Oh I guess I missed that, maybe those comments are so unneccessarily familiar in children films that my mind didn't even pick up on it.

You know speaking of Dream Works films. I really enjoyed Flushed Away. That was truly a funny flick!

Ragnarok
10-22-2009, 02:49 PM
I've watched TF: RTFM through twice. Not really sure what to say about it, let alone what to think. I spent about an hour on a rant/review/critique that was not only rude and overly-opinionated, but it was ultimately a waste of my energy. About all I can say is I liked parts of it, hated others and was indifferent to the rest. http://hvx-rc.com/forumstuff/emo/emo-shrug.gif

PS: I hated "Flushed Away." It wasn't as bad as "Hoodwinked", but it didn't make me a fan of Aardman's first CGI attempt.

The Stray Cat
10-22-2009, 02:53 PM
TF is one of those films huh? I guess I'll have to watch and form my own opinion. I really liked flushed away, now Hoodwinked on the other hand I could live without. I can't wait for Toy Story three's release. I loved the first 2 TS flicks.

Ragnarok
10-22-2009, 02:59 PM
Yeah, my "review" had more spoilers than SEMA, so it might've ruined things. I was in a foul mood when I watched it the first time, so that may have been part of my problem. I will say this, though: it's far more brutal in regard to the bot-on-bot violence. If the portrayal of this level of savagery had been applied to human characters it would've never gotten a rating from the MPAA.

The language is also a lot worse. Not atypical of a PG-13 movie, but, among other things, I didn't think the F-word was appropriate, regardless of the context. Filtering out a lot of that it was still a worthy sequel.

The Stray Cat
10-22-2009, 03:03 PM
Well I heard it was better than the first?? No?? I'll be watching Land of The Lost this weekend. I heard bad reviews about it, but I'm still going to watch it. I love Land of the Lost when it was on Saturday Mornings a long long long time ago. LMAO!

Ragnarok
10-22-2009, 03:13 PM
The sequel might be better than the first, but it entirely depends on what angle you approach it. I know that's a pretty ambiguous statement. To me the movie spins its wheels without much traction for too long. The runtime in and of itself wasn't the issue, but rather the plotcrap involving some of the human character development was too drawn out and smeared vulgarity. (Certainly not beyond the limits of PG-13, but I don't have to enjoy it.) I do have fast-forward on my Blu-Ray player, so I can get to all of the good parts and enjoy it just fine.

I still would have liked to see more TF characters given some room to breathe plotwise, but that defeats Mickey Bay's "hammer-down and damn the speedbumps" philosophy of cinema. Kind of the same criticism I had of the first movie, but this one doesn't seem so bad. The "mythology of the Primes" didn't get enough establishment in my opinion to make the issue of destiny as important in the movie as it presumes to tell us it is, but that might've made it a 3-hour movie. The Fallen himself comes off as a Darth Sidious wannabe, when he would've been best served as the franchise's Sauron, and that would have required more time and better character establishment and development. But what the dangheck do I know?

Land of the Lost. Oh man. Sid & Marty Croft…the Roger Cormans of televisions. :rolling:

The Stray Cat
10-22-2009, 03:19 PM
I would say that the TF Movies would be better with deeper character developement. THe classic cartoon TFs spent plenty of time and the RObots each had their own "personality" it made for much better understanding and enjoyablity of the cartoon.

Like I said Land of the Lost a LONG LONG LONG time ago

Ragnarok
10-22-2009, 03:27 PM
Well, the cartoon was episodic so even though one episode was about 30 minutes long, there were lots of those episodes where they could do incremental character/historical development and establishment that a 2-hour movie can't. So I certainly understand why things worked out the way they did. However, Lord of the Rings was able to do it. But, then again, I guess the difference would be that LotR is technically a single three-part movie instead of three semi-self-contained movies like TF.

Let me backtrack a little and be as positive as I can about the new one: It certainly could have been a lot worse! What did work worked very well. Wow, just imagine what it had been like if McG or Ang Lee had done it. :kick: We'd have had two reboots by now. One thing I did like was to see Prime get some vindication from his being outmatched in the first movie. He lays the hurt down big time.

The Stray Cat
10-22-2009, 03:29 PM

Update on the Korg DS-10 synthesizer for Nintendo DS. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/xseed-bringing-korg-ds-10-plus-to-north-america/
(I had started a thread a while ago about this thing to refresh any memories - Well, I guess I need to get a NDS (http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23798))

There's an updated version available in Japan and Xseed will be distributing it here in the States. The problem I had with the original is it only had two-voice polyphony, which made it useless to me because I couldn't do any contrapuntal arrangements. The new version, DS-10+, is the equivalent of two DS-10s running simultaneously: it has four instantiations of the DS-10 synth instead of just two (one could do four-part compositions, now), eight drum "synths", a 12-track sequencer, and DSi users will get extra effects. What started out as promising but stunted now looks pretty cool and, more importantly, USEABLE! Off to Electronics Boutique! …erm but not now.

HELL DIDDLY-DING-DØNG CRAP!!! http://hvx-rc.com/forumstuff/emo/emo-homerhulk.gif

Opened up iTunes this morning and it told me the file, "iTunes Library.xml", was damaged and I lost all of my playlists and my purchased music history. None of the music files themselves are actually gone, but I can't access them any longer from iTunes. http://hvx-rc.com/forumstuff/emo/emo-mad.gif

I deleted all of the preference files and dragged the folder named, "iTunes Library", to the iTunes application itself, so now it's reimporting ALL of my music files. That will probably take four or five hours. The only way I can listen to my tunes is to either open them up in QuickTime or listen to them in the Finder preview.

This here PC was reformatted, i lost all my itunes music, when we got it fixed, i told them my situation, they allowed me to download everything again (from purchase history) free of charge. Maybe they will do the same for you?

What caused that error? you know?

EDIT: You posted while i was typing  I never had a purchase history either when mine came back, though the nice woman the other end had it all on their file. :chug:

Ragnarok
10-26-2009, 08:26 AM
Well, thankfully, no music was lost - just iTunes no longer "saw" my purchased music. After reimporting my entire library it's all listed now, and if I go into my account by signing in I can see my tally that Apple has recorded, but the "Purchased" playlist itself is gone from my iTunes browser. I just picked up E.S. Posthumus' "Cartographer: Piri Reis Remixes" yesterday morning and it's there, but the browser isn't telling me that I purchased it.

I have no way of knowing what caused the error. I've been having a lot of weird problems lately with this machine. It's been reliable for the longest time and then I get two kernel panics in one day (Friday?). I haven't had a kernel panic for probably three years. I fear I'm going to have to put off that synth purchase and get me a new 'puter. :(

Ragnarok

It crashed. I just reopened it and it's "determining gapless playback" of the entire library. And now it's giving me the spinning beachball again. Something's definitely wrong. Maybe iTunes itself has been corrupted?

EDIT: Crashed again. Reopened and the gapless thing is happening again. I may have to reinstall the damned thing when I get home from work tonight.

EDIT 2: Beachball again, but it didn't crash and has moved on. I noticed that it hung up on the same file each time and I've removed it from my library. Something or other I downloaded from OCremix.org. It's about halfway through determining the gapless playback/song volume.

iTunes seems to be flying on its own power now. I've had this computer for exactly 7 years, so getting a new one wouldn't be a bad idea. I've been flip-flopping on what to get or build as its replacement. After last week's announcements from Apple…I may drink the Kool-Aid again in spite of my disdain for Apple. :(

This thing is looking better all the time:

52281

Actually, that looks more like the 21.5" model - I need the 27". The specs for the model I'm looking at: 27" LED-backlit LCD (2560 x 1440 pixel ), Intel Core i7 860 quad-CPU (2.8GHz Lynnfield), up to 16GB ram (I'd get 8GB, comes with 4GB stock) and the ability to use it as a monitor for other peripherals, like my PS3 for Blu-Ray viewage. Roughly $2,200, and I'd plan on getting it locally, with the Ram upgrades happening as a separate purchase because Apple overcharges for Ram. The Core i7 model won't be out until next month, but that's not really a problem since I may not have the money until December. <_< Hopefully my rig will hold up until then.

Ive never owned an "Apple" comp meself, and i have NO idea at all about them??.

You could work out what spec pc you could get for around the same money and go all out comparing them. For your $2200 over here, you could have something of nasa spec with that paper!

Oh, I know that for sure would definitely not argue at all. It's one of my main gripes about Apple: like the OS, pay the premium. A similarly spec'ed PC would cost about the same with a 27" LCD (probably not at that resolution, though) or maybe even less, BUT my main focus is music, and while there are plenty of guys "getting by" with Windows, Mac OS X still handles audio better and with fewer hassles. The Mac OS fits me better and I can navigate and troubleshoot it far more intuitively than any version of Windows. A lot of the problems Vista had with digital audio haven't been entirely addressed in Win 7, which is based on what a lot of guys are saying over at KVRAudio.com. They argue that XP is still the way to go, and I can't be stuck in a 32-bit environment. Memory is king in digital audio and the 3.2GB limit is like fighting with one hand and leg tied behind your back.

I may have missed it but whats your current setup?

One button, but the whole top is a multitouch surface. It does vastly more than a mouse with a scroll wheel/roller would do. However, I dislike mice altogether so I use a trackball. :lolbeat:

Dang. Well, color me enraged. It appears that the DisplayPort input feature on the new iMac 27" doesn't really work as it's been hyped to.

http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=12125

iFixit.com first discovered it. Here's what they said:

"The iMac will not act as a second (or primary) display using the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter that Apple sells. We tried it on a PS3 Slim, as well as a MacBook and MacBook Pro. It looks like we'll have to wait for a special adapter from Apple or a third party."

Apple can still fix this if they wanted to, but more than likely it will take a third party company to make an expensive device ($200 minimum, I'm sure) that will somehow circumvent Apple's arrogance. Based on my research on the DisplayPort tech this morning, it would require the source machine to pump out DisplayPort "code" over a DVI plug in order for the DVI-to-DisplayPort doo-hickey to work, which would be monumentally stupid as the device would just use a DisplayPort plug to begin with! WTF Apple?!? They've been in the Bay area too long.

So, I can't pass my Samsung ToC T260HD to my parents like I'd hoped. I only want one screen in my Bat Cave as it's a small room and the plan was to use this iMac as my singular "visual altar." The iMac screen is a higher resolution, a better LCD technology (TN on the T260HD vs. IPS on the iMac) and a slightly larger image (25.5" vs. 27"), so having the Samsung HDTV would have been redundant (theoretically).

Weaksauce.

Here's the only way I'm going to get this thing to view Blu-Rays at all, since that's about 95% of what I use my PS3 for and Apple has no plans of supporting Blu-Ray in Mac OS anytime soon…FUDRUCKERS!:

1) Run some accursed tincture of Windows via Bootcamp. Let's call this $200, about what Windows 7 64-bit OEM costs.
2) Add either a USB2.0 external Blu-Ray drive or install a slot-loading Blu-Ray drive in the iMac's chassis itself. An external BD-Rom (read-only) drive from Plextor is about $170, or I could go whole-hog and get a Panasonic UJ-235A Slim Slot-Load SATA BD-RE drive for $500. (BD recording would be great for data archival.)

So I'm looking at up to $700 more. I was hoping to use my PS3 via an adapter…providing there will be an adapter that will work…as its UI is very easy to navigate and I don't want, nor need, to wade through the fetid quagmire of a separate, full-blown computer OS just to watch movies. It makes my toenails hurt.

Maybe I ought to consider just getting another LCD for my movie/gaming rig, build a nice lowboy home theater cabinet and quit complaining?

There's one LCD that has piqued my curiosity. The Sharp AQUOS 32" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV (LC-32LE700UN). LED-backlit, 120Hz refresh-rate, 20K:1 dynamic contrast ratio, four HDMI inputs, two 1080p-compatible Component inputs, one VGA input, two RCA Composite inputs, and it's just under one-kilobuck. NewEgg has them for $800 but won't ship to Hoth, so I should see if I can get it from Best Buy or Target. I'd rather buy locally anyway 'cause $200 for shipping isn't fun.

I'd rather stick with Samsung as they're not made in China. They have two 32" screens (they're actually 31.5") with the cheapest being about $800-$1,000 depending on who is selling it, and the other around $1,400-ish. Either way it's a lot of money I'd rather spend on something else. Maybe a speculative device costing $200 to gang my PS3 up to the iMac wouldn't be a bad deal after all. Oh well.

Okay, I'm shuttin' up now.

Well if it was me Rag with your money I'd buy the HDTV from Sharpe then use my puter for for everything else.

Ragnarok
10-28-2009, 10:31 AM
Yeah, that's probably what I'll do. (Dang, I'm a whiner.) The more I look into the Sharp, I think it's a better buy than the Samsung, anyway. Also, contrary to what I just said (ie. 'bout the separate OS for media viewing) building an HTPC might be a fun project. I'd love to have all of my DVDs and Blu-Rays archived to HDs so I could have one well to draw from for all of my movie viewing. It's sort of how I have my PS3 set up with movies I've downloaded off the internet (like music gear demos, computer gear reviews and "Ask a Ninja" episodes) and a "best of" selection of my music collection. If I took this route my PS3 would get retired from media duty entirely and just be used for games.

I have a rackmountable 4U HTPC case that I purchased on a whim, thinking I'd use it for my DAW (I'm set on the iMac for that purpose now, so no music PC), but I may keep it around just for an HTPC build. It has space for two optical drives and can hold six HDs, and if I packed it full of 2TB drives, that would be 12TB of storage - plenty to hold my entire current movie library and plus several years of expansion, like my little crusade of replacing DVDs with more recent Blu-Ray versions. It wouldn't need to be a monster, either. Just a decent motherboard (µATX) and a modest CPU (a nice dually), with the lion's share of the money going into HDs, a good optical drive or two and a respectable GPU card (providing the mobo doesn't have integrated video processing that is adequate).

Here's the case I have. It's a Silverstone LC-17B. I took a quick snapshot of it for the "Talent" thread. It's under my PS3 and synth module:
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49821&d=1250659402

Here's a theoretical what if idea:
52341

Everything here is simply "just for now" or "until I know differently." The Samsung HDs actually look good for their specs, and I think that 6TB will be plenty for me for now. I already have a good low-profile CPU heatsink (Thermalright XP-140) and the case, plus the integrated GPU on the mobo is probably plenty for my needs. One thing I didn't factor was a keyboard, but that's not a biggie. I might look at one of those wireless, media types.

I wouldn't even consider this for at least a year because my money's going to be tied up in tools, so the component selections are completely fluid.

The Stray Cat

Ragnarok

Regarding Windows 7, it all depends on which review you read. Some say go for it, others say don't bother. I made the decision for myself that for pro-audio purposes it still won't be all that I need, but I'm also coming from a Mac user's point of view. For previous XP and Vista users that do more everyday and non-specialized stuff, though, I found these reviews and perspectives via Engadget that may help.

Windows 7 launch day: what you need to know (http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/22/windows-7-launch-day-what-you-need-to-know/) <-- This is where I would start. It's a clearinghouse for information like what to know about it, upgrade strategies, which version you may need, hardware recommendations, and, most importantly, a couple of (in my opinion) trustworthy reviews.

Seven on 7 (http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/24/entelligence-seven-on-7/) <-- An interesting read. Here the columnist has 4 reasons to upgrade and 3 to abstain.

You could also go to Anandtech:
Windows 7 Performance Guide (http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=3666)
Windows 7: Release Candidate 1 Preview (http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=3557) <--- A little old (May of this year) but still worth reading.

Well I am leaning towards the upgrade just because of the ease of use, Vista has to many complicated checks in place and other garbage not needed. But I'll read those links you posted later tonight at home, thanks,

I imagine it's whomever is the least expensive for Amazon for any one particular order/delivery logistics/jiggy. I've never had any serious problems with either of them, but I have siblings that have had nothing but problems with UPS.

My big order that included my PS3 and Logitech Z-2300 speakers last year was delivered by a female UPS delivery person. She was hoisting both boxes together out of her truck and into the hallway of our business without straining. To give you idea what that was like, the box with the PS3 also had a metric frack-ton of DVDs, and the Logitech speakers were in their own grossly-oversized box and weighed what felt like 50lbs alone. To be fair, though, psoriatic arthritis has done a lot of damage to my ability to grip and lift things effectively.

Autoimmune disorders aside, I still felt like a complete pansy trying to lug 'em around so I could open them when this UPS driver, who was maybe a third my size, wasn't even breathing hard when she lifted both simultaneously from her truck to my hallway. She wasn't some water buffalo man-chick with no neck, either. She was actually pretty cute.

GREAT GONZO'S GHOST!

I just read that Anthony Hopkins will be playing Odin in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor." What the freaking hell? Having arguably the best Shakespearian director at the helm of Thor, one would think that better casting decisions could be made. That's a terrible choice.

Here's probably what the screenplay looks like:

Exterior. Slow dramatic zoom on Odin's great hall in Valhalla.

Interior. Thor, on bended knee before the throne of his father, bloodied and bruised.

Thor: "Father, I have smoten Loki."
Odin: "Hairs on a bobbin, old bunt. Would you like a nice chianti? Fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh…"

I'm guessing that Meg Ryan will be Hel and Paul Rubens get the part of Tyr.

That's Stellan Skårsgård. He was also Boot-Strap Bill in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels. His son was actually rumored to be playing Thor at one point. Stellan would make an awesome Odin. It helps that he's an authentic Scandinavian, he's tall (6'4" or 5") and has the large physique, and he can portray an air of wisdom and regality very easily. His ruthlessness in King Arthur could be an applicable character trait of Odin, too. That was a killer choice, and one I never thought of. :nice:

He also played the King in a pretty crappy movie Beowulf vs Grendel. But I love the heir of arrogance he carries in Arthur. My two favorite lines in that movie are spoken by him

Thor is locked in with Chris Hemsworth (who?) and Loki is being played by Tom Hiddleston (again, who?). Natalie Portman is also in it, one of my most reviled actresses - right up there with Geena Davis and Kathy Bates. Her acting in the Star Wars prequel trilogy was comparable to a rock. Just sitting there. Being a rock. Doing nothing else. Yeah.

I was also thinking of Maximilian Schell as Odin. He's definitely got the age and "look" that would be appropriate. Max Von Sydow would be another tall, imposing and highly-accomplished Scandinavian actor like Skårsgård. If Jerry Bruckheimer was behind it (oh crap, now there would be an epic trainwreck) Odin would be played by either Brian Blessed or John Rhys-Davies, Thor would be whatever flavor-of-the-month was in "Twilight" and Loki would be either Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler. :kick:

Now if Johnny Depp was Loki…that right there might be entertaining. He's good enough and certainly creepy enough that I think he might be able to pull it off.

Oh crap, I forgot: De Niro's in it, too. As who exactly is anyone's guess.

That's good though, I like when the do the super hero movies with unknown actors it gives it a sense of its own. Like ya said throw some everyday actor in on thor and it changes the whole vibe, itusually works, except maybe in the firsty HULK movie. Look at how badly Nic Cgae blew as Ghost Rider. That's what happens when a big name actor who is a SUperman fan tries to play a Pennance delivering demon god from Hell. It just doesn't work. It'd be like Leonardo Decaprio playing the Punisher.

Okay Transformers ROTF, Pretty good movie for entertainment purposes. I can't stand SHia and Megan Fox couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, nice eye candy but that's it. As far as the Robots go, I loved seeing Prime and Bumble bee kickin butt. The little f350 and the twins weren't reallyu needed in my opinion, to much comic relief. The premise behind the whole story was good though, the idea of the alines being there forever was pretty cool. So I'd watch it again for sure, but I wouldn't say it ranks up there as a "MUST HAVE" dvd.

Ragnarok
10-31-2009, 09:20 AM
I agree. Wheelie was completely unnecessary, and him humping Megantron's leg was stupid, never mind obscene. The Twins…they could've been better, and some of their antics were pretty funny. They weren't as annoying as Jar Jar Binks, but only slightly.

I kinda hated to see Ravage done in the way he was. He was boned like a fish. That was pretty gross.

Here's my analysis of Megan Fox: she's empirically sexy, but as typical for movies by The Bay, like her predecessors (Scarlett Johansen in "The Island", Liv Tyler in "Armageddon", and her own previous appearance in the first TF movie) she's merely decoration; a piece of meat to lure guys into theaters who don't think that huge flippin' robots that turn into stuff is interesting on its own. It makes you wonder if The Powers that Be behind the movie felt the same way. Women are more than this, even if they are in concert with their own exploitation as Fox obviously is. It's degrading to her and insulting to the audience. The movie would have been best served if they did something more meaningful with her character. The "glory" shots of her bent over the chopper in Daisy Dukes and the constant Downblousecam™ scenes in the last half of the movie had me screaming, "ALRIGHT! I GET IT!!!" Less important but unavoidable, her lips looked a little odd (yes, I even compared them to the first movie) like she put her lip gloss on with a hot soldering iron. I wonder if lip venom was in addition to the other many "special requests" from Mickeytron, like the gallons of skin bronzer she had to wear and washing his car for her audition? The way she landed on the new guy after they were teleported to Egypt was out of line, too. I'm pretty prudish when it comes to sexual humor.

I thought LeBouf's performance was actually okay, but the "relationship issues" between the two were completely by-the-numbers, "I've already seen this on Three's Company" fare.

I actually liked the way former Agent Simmons was handled. (With the exception of getting a face full of his butt n' batch in his athletic supporter. Yargh!) His character wasn't as annoying as in the first film.

Some of the other things I didn't care for:
- Sam's dingbat mother showing up at Princeton snarfing down pot-brownies was typical "ha-ha, yeah okay, whatever" drug-humor, but running around campus while she was toasted laughing at having witnessed her son loose his virginity wasn't what I consider good humor.
- Mojo's new butt-buddy, which I'm sure they only included in the movie just so they could do the alpha-male dominance joke. Twice. One of the Easter Eggs on the Blu-Ray (DVD, too? - not sure) is non-stop male-on-male dog humping.
- Devastator having nads.
- The non-stop, continuous, run-on sexual innuendo from that beet-loving The Office washout Rainn Wilson's astronomy professor character. "Asstronomy" is probably what the director/writers were thinking, all the while sounding like Beavis n' Butthead during their six-week, four-star hotel lockdown writing jams.

One thing that was lacking was some kind of explanation for the Arcee triplets. What was their deal? The Arcee triplets, or sisters, were the three motorcycles that were chasing down that Audi R8 (Sideways) in the Shanghai sequence at the beginning of the movie. While there were three of them, they're all addressed as a singular entity. Concept art for the final Arcee designs:

Arcee in the final movie:

In the TF 'toon movie from 1986 (and G2 cartoon series), Arcee was the first female Autobot to be featured and was definitely just one character. She turned into a pink car-dealie. Art below:
52438

Arcee was originally to be in the first Michael Bay Transformers movie, but was cut out due to time and budgetary constraints. Plus explaining how gender relates to sentient robotic organisms would've made things clunky plotwise. Some original concept art below:

Okay, I think I've found the answer to my Arcee conundrum, but the explanation is still pretty weird and halfassed. Borrowed from http://tfwiki.net/

Within the Revenge of the Fallen movie itself (and discussed in more detail in the novelization of the film), Arcee is revealed to be a "tripartite Cybertronian," meaning she is not one, but three motorcycles, who are controlled by a singular intelligence, in the vein of Reflector in the Generation 1 cartoon. The Revenge of the Fallen toyline, however, has identified Arcee as only one of the bikes (the pink/red one), and characterized the other two as individuals, Chromia and Elita-1
- In a similar vein, it was originally intended that the three individual "Arcees" would combine into a singular, larger robot in the film, but this did not come to pass. The toys do possess the ability, however, and the combined form did appear in the film's novelization, and in (apparently) two panels of the comic adaptation.
- How to reconcile this new version of Arcee with the version seen in media associated with the first movie? The bio for Revenge of the Fallen's Knock Out holds the answer! This motorbike Autobot wants to undergo the new "combiner retrofit" he's been hearing about, strongly implying that Arcee underwent the same process, giving her the new powers she has in Revenge of the Fallen. Whether or not the process involves getting combined with other, distinct Autobots (as the toyline would suggest, what with Chromia being an individual) or if it involves the Transformer's body being converted so that it splits into combining components (as the movie itself would suggest) is unknown.
- On that note, in the film itself she refers to her components in plural form. Before chasing Sideways, the Arcees are seen in vehicle form with their holographic drivers activating, with a communications officer asking if they are ready. To which, she replies; 'We're locked and loaded'. This seems to suggest that her components are individuals like in the toyline rather than just extensions of herself. Additionally, writer Roberto Orci said that Arcee was written as three bikes that formed one being, but Michael Bay kept them as individuals.[7] This was further corroborated by the Revenge of the Fallen ILM effects supervisor Scott Farrar during a question-and-answer session at the Siggraph 2009 computer animation festival, wherein Farrar stated that Bay dropped the combination as there was already so much going on at that point in the film that it would have only added to the confusion. However, designer Steve Jung did make a model for the combined robot.

The Stray Cat

Well that makes it clear as mud. Anyway yes there was a lot of underlying unneccessary stuff going on that the movie did not need, and other than eye candy Fox had reason to be in the movie. The movie would've easily flowed just the same had they broekn up when he left for school. Devastator was cool aside from his unneeded scrotum.

This might be interesting for some. Not a lot of substance, but it might foreshadow what may come in the third TF movie. Unicron, anyone?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzNxo2p-aQQ

This is a Blu-Ray exclusive Easter Egg (not on the DVD) that's sort of hard to work out, so watching this is a lot easier. I also know that Orci and Kurtzman aren't going to have any involvement with TF3, which may or may not be a good thing. It could result in it being a very different film. My hope is that Prime isn't off'ed for good. They've already done that, complete with heroic resurrection, so I really don't think that spending that nickel again is necessary. The third movie has to be the Decepticon Apocalypse - serious, world-ending calamities - and only Unicron can pull that off. Crap, Uni's so big that just him entering the Earth's gravitational path would tear the planet apart.

But they didn't kill off Bumblebee. I'm positive they didn't. He survived the '86 movie, but was pushed into the back on the series (3rd season?) after the film, and then came back in the return of Prime, got damaged badly and was rebuilt by the Quintessons (them multi-faced be-tentacled sadists) where he took the name Goldbug. :nice:

I have an original G1 'bee, and a Goldbug. The Goldbug isn't as loosely-jointed as the original Bumblebee. The tailgate flap where his head is doesn't like to stay up. Other than the new Bumblebee from the RotF toys, I'd like to get this one:

The robot-mode surprisingly accurate to the movie representation. I mean really accurate, like about 90%. Tons of articulation and, to quote something I overheard 19 years ago in my 9th grade art class, "Homeboy be big" - it's easily the biggest TF I've owned. (Well, the O. Prime R.I.D. has a "super-mode" that gets pretty big, but I prefer it without all of that because it becomes really clunky and difficult to balance upright.) The only thing it's missing are guns. Weird. There's a "Buster" version coming out soon that has a huge-ola cannon, but the head will be lacking the mouth-guard, which I think is an odd trade-off. If he's packing heat, he'd be more inclined to be protectin' the grill, yo.

A couple of things. One, there are some family pics in these images and I clone-stamped them out. Two, the winged ear/jaw guards on Thor are completely botched. This wasn't Oluf's fault as they were properly positioned when he submitted the master sculpt. It's likely some assclown from Sideshow pharked it up, or one of the morlocks at the factory modified pre-mold it to fit his bizarre concept of what "right" is.

I wish I could photograph all of the stuff of his that I own (it amounts to about only 5% of his actual "catalog", though) but most of it is in boxes and would be hard to photograph in a group. That's why I linked to his website. It's easier to see his work that way. :D You get to see a lot of the wax prototypes as well.

Wow, your bro is amazing, I actually own the 12" Boromir figure. I can't believe he sculpted the bookends from LOTR, that is like my one serious wish list item from WETA, but I could never justify the cost for bookends. But I love the whole design of it.

Yeah, I never got any of his LotR stuff. I do have two Comicbook Guy busts, though - the regular one and a "The Collector" convention exclusive (don't remember which "Con" - Comicon or Toy Faire?). He's done a lot of work for Hasbro, too. I have a Bantha (can't see most of the cool details as it's covered by long, thick hair ), a G.I. Joe Bob Hope, one of the Street Sharks he did (Moby Lick), and a couple of Star Wars figures. He did some SW: Expanded Universe figures, too, but those were long gone before I started hunting down his work.

Of the Sideshow Star Wars stuff, he gave my folks the 12" Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine double-pack. It seems like my sister got a 1/4-scale Van Helsing, but I can't remember.

Recently, he's done some work for DC Direct, DC Comic's recently-established premium toy division. The "Batman Family Multi-Part Statue" (http://www.dccomics.com/dccomics/search/?q=BATMAN+FAMILY+MULTI-PART+STATUE&x=0&y=0) multi-piece diorama-type dealie with a whole bunch of Batman characters is the only one I know of for sure, but I know there have been others.

52568

Piece #1 (Robin & Catwoman) is out, #2 (Nightwing & Huntress) will be out 'round Thanksgiving, #3 (Gordon & Bat Woman) will be out in December, so I think the Batman piece will be the last one out. Probably a January release. I think he started work on these way into last year. It often takes these companies a long time to get from master sculpt to getting the thing on store shelves.

Very cool, I had the Bantha in my collection at one time, About 7 years ago when MY wife and I had only one child, my action figure collecxtion was book valued at 15,000$$$ roughly, but eventually I had to sell off a lot of it, between being too much and needing the room for a new baby, but on the bright side I made enough from it to put a downpayment on my mortgage for a house! I don't collect much anymore unless something really tickles my fancy, I buy some stuff for my son Luke, he loves Star Wars, and all that stuff. I have a nice Tolkien collection, and I want those bookends for the books and movies I have from him.

Hey Rag a few years ago there was a comic book series released with Transformers and Gi Joe, it was cool because they set it all in a WWII era with everything having the classic look.

here's a link to some of them.

Cross-overs often produce interesting results, but take that and put it into an entirely different "universe", like an alternate-reality historical epoch, and it can get downright freaky. I'm not into comic books (I tried when I was about 9 or 10), but these do indeed look interesting. :D

I also found this a couple of weeks ago:

It's a steam-punk "Hearts of Steel" Optimus Prime, but it would seem to avoid lawsuits from Hasbro or Takara/Tomy it's been renamed "Knight Morpher Commander." It's an actual transformable figure you can buy for about $85 (well, pre-order), which in my opinion is completely reasonable for a boutique, low-number production item like this. I kind of prefer it in the monochrome it's sold in over the traditional Prime red-n'-blue scheme, but a weathered gunmetal black would kick butt even more. You can see a wire-frame CGI model and a bunch of other views from the guys that produced it here: http://mastermindcreation.blogspot.com/

It would definitely be cool all gunmetal, I only read part of the story line from the TF/Gi Joe x over but I think what they did creatively with the characters, Joes and TFs looked awesome!

From what I read the idiot was ticked about having to go overseas. Pansy POS officer baby. Ya know us enlisted men didn't have a choice, but these officers are a bunch of college graduate sissy boys. I had a few good officers when I was in, but the new XOs which was always a brand new meatwhack out of college would always come and then we'd have to train em. I just read also that the "authorities" were suspicious of him before this. I'm sick of hearing this crap. If the authorities are suspicious then they should do something.

The A-hole took an oath of loyalty and honor to his ( that term used loosely) country, and the military. Just saw pics this morning of the 35th Anniversary Bigfoot 12. It's on display along with Bigfoot 1 at SEMA this year. They removed the 2008 F-250 body and replaced it with a replica of Bigfoot 1's shell (which technically is a '79). It would have been even cooler if they used the bumper BF1 has instead of the stock one. It looks a little naked without the rollbar, too, but that's no biggie.

Yeah, I have to cut the carbs big-time, especially dynamite like bread. I have to just consume less, too. I've been on-and-off with prednisone, a corticosteroid, that keeps the inflammation down on my psoriatic arthritis, and what it does to my appetite is demonic and unholy. I eat almost twice what I normally do. A normal meal portion for me is what I would consider normal for anyone, unless it's a particular food (ie. pizza - I have a low defense against that one), but when I'm on my prednisone for more than two days things get really terrible. My movement and dexterity improves wonderfully, but how much I eat scares me. It makes self-control really difficult. As a result, I avoid hitting the prednisone as much as possible. I keep it around for emergency use, only when I feel the pain becoming unbearable again. (I'm also on methotrexate, but that has different side-effects and treats my condition in a more permanent basis.)

My sub-goal at this point is to be below 300 by this coming May. :nice: That's about the halfway mark to my ultimate goal.

broccoli is awesome. i practically live on it. i think the trick is not to cook it too much. also some foods go better with it than others...broccoli and bacon is a winning combo for example. cabbage and bacon works well to. make it lean for health i guess but it still tastes good.

I can have a little bacon with the program I'm doing. The big issue with it is the sodium. Salt causes water retention and can bring a string of successful days of weight loss to an irritating plateau. It's like everything, just moderate the intake. I appreciate the ideas, too.

It snowed last night. Not a lot, but when I headed down to take a shower this morning I could see fields of white through the windows, reflecting what little light there was from the sky. I'll take some pics during the day and post them up this evening.

My eldest niece was kvetching about it last night on her Facebook page about the snow as it came down in Anchorage. Like any good and gentlemanly uncle, I kindly said…

"Be a man!"

The first question I'm not sure I understand. If you mean like a patronymic (last name coming from the father's first name), yes, but that ended a couple of generations back in my family. My great-great Grandfather was Hartivg Nielsen, and his sons all had the last name 'Hartvigsen.' However my great Grandfather didn't do the same with his children: they all had the same last name as his. If he had they would've been had the surname of 'Pedersen.' My grandfather, for whatever reason, changed the 'e' to an 'o' so our family has the last name 'Hartvigson.'

The second one, pretty much. I'm not officially on it now, but I haven't gone off the reservation in any serious manner yet. I'm thinking next Monday or Sunday. It will be a little tough during the deluge of Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year, but I'm confident I'll make it work.

Well, my actual name is Carl - 'Ragnar' is a nom de plume I assumed for the sake of internet anonymity. Looks like I blew that one. (Although waaaaaaay back in my family history [1600s?] someone named 'Ragnil' which I think is the feminine derivative.) My father wanted to give all of his boys Scandinavian names, I think partially because his parents avoided it. The names of my siblings and myself are (in oder of oldest-to-youngest): John, Oluf, Carl, Kristian. My oldest brother's name isn't really all that scandinavian-sounding, it's actually Hebrew. 'Hans', 'Jan' or 'Johan' might've been more accurate, but it's okay. My lone sister's name is Spanish.

The origins of my second oldest bro (Oluf) is a variation of Olaf or Olav, and my dad had a 2nd cousin that he looked up to with that name.

Now that's out of the way, the first few were taken on Saturday evening - the next-to-last day before the Snowmageddon.

Here we're headed back to Wasilla from Anchorage. Just barely out of Anchorage actually. You can see the snow coming down in the Chugiach range:

After going north a while, the Parks Highway goes due west as it heads to Wasilla, and in that direction it was a little more clear. These next few were of a somewhat low-intensity sunset. First is as we're entering the outer reaches of Wasilla:

Dang, I was working on my Postzilla and missed yours. No builds at the moment. I wouldn't have time for it regardless what I was doing. Work and thinking about work takes most of my time. I flirted with the idea of completely dropping RC as a hobby, but that itch is going again and I need to get something done. I have four projects I want to complete, one of which I've been dreaming and scheming about the last 10 years.

They're all monster-related. I want to get my Nikko Hercules dealio done, I have a front IS/rear SA race MT I want to build (LST-based), a secret squirrel, and an 8WD mutant that I've purchased only half of the needed tires. I have a lot of tooling and fabbing stuff I need to get together, too, in order to make any of it work. It's going to be a while, but I'm not out yet. :nice: The music-thing is definitely a higher priority, though.

Oh yeah…POST 1000, britches! :firedevil:
