Defender/SCX10

Hi,
I'm currently building a SCX/defender and have seen a few people mount the servo upside down and to the side as oppose to lying down (as per Honcho kit). Is there a different servo support required or do people make custom mount. Pics would be great.

Why would you want to do this? Is this for appearances only or are there performance benefits to it?
