The idea to build a Vintage Baja Class Race Buggy like a Funco or Chenowth was in my head since long time. Some month ago I started to collect parts I needed to start off the build.
So this is my humble attempt to build a Baja Class Race Buggy. I used a Buggy Champ front suspesnion, a SRB aluminium chassis and a Kyosho Scorpion gearbox and suspension. The Scorpion rear end with the trailing arms looks more realistic as the the SRB ones. Front wheels are aluminum Buggy Champ wheels painted white and the rear wheels are RC4WD Landies reversed with RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ tires. Body is a modified Buggy Champ body with the shape of a Funco MK2 Buggy. Shocks are also from RC4WD. Next will be cockpit and RC compartment and more details. I am thinking of narrowing the rear trailing arms for more scale look btw. Hope you like it. Thomas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow Thomas, that looks fantastic. I love the Bel Ray Bullet.
I'm building a Bel Ray Bullet as well based on a Vintage Rough Rider but I can't find Tamiya decals. Are those original or repro decals ? |

Very nice Thomas! After looking at your buggy, and then the web, your body is spot on. I noticed that I need to work on the rear section of mine to complete it. Your buggy is really, really nice and a tip of the hat to a job well done.

Thomas, that is gorgeous. You really nailed it. The shot of the wide rear track looks so nice.
I love the way the rear double shock setup lays out at an angle, and is not straight up and down... |

Nice built Thomas, both of them!
![]() Sins I’m a Scorpion freak I like to know how you solved the adapters and the rear wheels to fit the Scorpion. Because those rear wheels would be nice on Beetle project I’m planning |

That is very simple. I just exchanged the stock Scorpion wheel axle by standard Tamiya TA03 wheel axles. I put a black O-ring between the wheel axle and the flanged bearing in the arm and that is all about. Now you can use any pin driven 12mm hex or direct pin driven wheel (as the RC4WD Landies I used). Thanks Thomas for that info! I think you can find CVD’s that fits, I have a set of old CRP CVD’s that I will measure for you if you want to. And you can tell me afterword’s if you find some…
