Default Starting to take shape

Hi Guys. Here are some updates. But first I have some comments about Tamiya TL01 and TL02 units. Maybe I am wrong but as far as I am concerned those units have a big problem. If you want to use the blinker (while turning left or right) you must use TWO (02) units of TL01! The problem is that each TL01 comes with connection for only 2 blinkers. And LEDs comes attached in pairs. As these trucks are very big you can not put one blinker on front and one rear on same side using the LEDs provided. They should be like MFU or Light Unit where these blinker LEDs are used individually.

I am using a Tamiya Sound Unit, Tamiya Light Unit, one Tamiya TL02 and one Tamiya TL01.

Next steps are:

1) Make wire and 3 position switch for boom and winch;
2) Place additional lights (LEDS are already installed as shown on move/pics) on rear.
3) Install and place rotating (fast blinking LEDS) on upper parts of wrecker platform
4) Finish with round styrene (cylinder) the lower parts of wrecker platform and paint them in blue.
5) Paint and install the base for controls switches on wrecker platform.
6) Paint the back of front grille (black) and glue it in place. Install stickers, wipers, decals, etc.

I am not sure if I will paint the aluminum wrecker platform. Also no clue on what color do it (if I will). The red parts on my wrecker I am not sure if they will stay red, become black, blue or plain aluminum.

Comments, critics and suggestions are always welcome.

Cheers,

Henry

Looks great Henry! I like the color! I've seen the same updates on the garden trucking message board too. It's come a long way, and you're getting pretty close to having a fine, finished model. Keep it up!

That looks fantastic

If it was me, I'd paint the sides blue, and leave the inside red. Makes for a nice contrast. But it's a beauty no matter what color

I love aluminum, but I would say for the finished look you need ot paint the bed. Great job and waiting for more pics.

Thanks Natan! I am sure I will made some minor changes before get it done but it will be pretty close to real model.

Thanks Stu. Yes, I agree that all blue gives a nice contrast with red and chromed parts. I probably will go that way.

Jugg2Driver yes, the boom and winch works. But they are not connected yet. I need the 3 position switches to them.

sig p232, thanks. Will add some paint to that and post some pics latter.

Cheers!

Henry

Yeah, all tamiya trucks moves like that. Maybe some gear reduction (5:1) will do it later. I removed but will add again when truck is done.

As for the light bar, sure it will be in place! Not using your words but...

"3) Install in place rotating (fast blinking LEDS) on upper parts of wrecker platform"

Cheers,

Henry

I had a wicked idea for your jacks last night. My dad's rig had outriggers in the back like you have yours, but it was for a crane truck. basically they were extensions for the bottom pad. here is how you would make them:

take the measurements of the bottom pad now.
then make 2 more pads of the same size for each side.
make 2 poles to go between the pads and the ground with them in the up position.
then hinge the top pad of the new area to the bottom of the original.
also make a way for the extensions to hang up when not in use. My dad's had chain on the bottom of the extension to hook to the original part to hold them up high enough for on roads and rough terrain.

or you can just make it easier with some scale size wood jack pads like for semi trailers.

Thanks for your idea The Stuff. I liked it too. But it will be better if I have pictures of an existing one. Can you take pic (rear and side view) of existing jacks on your dad's truck? Thanks!

Rikpal, thanks a lot for your nice words!

unfortunately i cant cause it was sold a couple years ago and he only has the small one left that has long enough outriggers not to need it. I will look through photo albums etc to see if i can find a picture.
