Default The Nutty Hot Rod build-off, T Bucket, now with update...

As luck would have it, on the Norcc forum a Belair hardbody turned up earlyer today, needless to say I had to have it

I have NO idea wich chassis this would go on, or if I gonna make a custom one...
I see the wheel arches is a bit to big, some styrene would take care of that

After the size given by the seller I guess it's 1:12..

Here are the pics from the sellers add

I will have to see if I can make the dead line, as I moving in a few weeks to a smaller place....

cool...

Ditch the crappy engine and side exhausts and make scale detailed versions yourself and you've got a great start...might even get away with not painting it

dunno what to recommend for a chassis/driveline though, depends exactly how narrow it is...

Yup I will make a new engine, and I'm thinking functional blower..

I have a few axles here, I may go with rigd axle and leaf in the rear
Maybe I'll take a Pantablo, i.e make my own chassis out of styrene

Btw: The car is 43x16cm so I guess it's 1:12 or arond there.....
For wheels I have some Fly Chraigar wheels in the parts bin...

On a side note, look what I found, I really hope I get this

I'm moving in a few days to a smaller and crappy place to save some money over time

The good news are the T bucket is somewhere between here and Oslo (250km away) so I can start the build when I'm settle down in my new place, hopefully around the end of this month...
A week ago the T bucket was in Chicago

A small update....

The t bucket arrived to me the following day of my last post..

The bad news was that the front suspension was broken when I got it.
My orginal plan was to keep it more or less stock, but with all the electric stuff updated.

My new plan is to replace the orginal plastick bathtub like chassis with some propper rails out of steel or alu.
Saw off the engine and radiator and move both items forward a bit.
Get hold of a Tamiya Scania front axle (they look a bit like the I beams usen on hot rods) and mount it on a transvers leaf spring.

Both headers, air filter and valve covers can be taken of the engine.
Valve covers will be remain stock but headers will be modified to look more scale.
I will also try to make a 6-71 supercharger for the bad to the bone look

Not sure of the paint yet..

Pictures will be uploaded ASAP

Here are some pictures as promissed

I took the T bucket apart to see what it was made of...

This is the orginal wheelbase at 9.25"

And here at a tad over 10" wb as I think I will have after I have built it, it may be even longer...

Good overview, albeit dirty....

Radiator etc..

The engine is a good starting point for details.
I will saw it off the body and make it more Y shape like the real ones have, will also have a sump when I'm finished..

All lights on this rig works, real bulbs so you get the vintage feeling

The small steering wheel has to go....

Any Idea how I can have the ribs raised in chrom and the rest in paint???
Paint it chrom, then the body color paint then wipe of the paint from the ribs??

It even opens, so the RX and esc will be hidden here later...

"Fake jag coilover suspension"

And here are the driving gear on the axle.
I will chop the axle in half, remove the gear (weak) and install a gear from servocity.

The two screws are for the interior, same goes for the 2 small holes where small screws are hidden in..

This car hade a smoke generator and the smoke came out in the end of the headers as seen here..

In the pic you can see the screw that holdds the valve covers, and wires are for the lights.

And this is the c.r.a.p.p.y gearbox that was inside the tub chassis.
Some gears are missing theets and the shafts itself are bent, and the motor is a 180 type I think...
Out of the window it goes

And this it the orginal "chassis"

That thingy with the tubes are the smoke generator

And this little fella is the horn

Inside here the steering servo sits, or that thingy that tries to work as a servo

Lower part of the front suspension

As stated earlyer, both headers and valve covers can be taken off, the air filter too..

Valve covers will remain stock

Engine block...

With the carb/filter removed

And all the items taken apart

Interior

Light housing at the cab

Rear lights with the fake suspension

Front lights

I have found some 5x10mm steel bits in my scrap box that I will use as frame rails.
These will be welded.

Rear suspension will be like the stock one, with a brushless 360 motor set up I think.
The car will be powered by a small lipo pack that I will be placing between the rails...

Front suspension will be Tamiya tractor truck axle as the look a bit like the I beams some hot rods are using..
Me or some other person have to make links and it will be hung up in tranvers mounted leaf spring in front of the radiator...

Are this looking like a good plan to you guys?

great start, but I did not understand...

"rear suspension will be like stock one" means you'll do a fake suspension rearend like it had or you will put on it a real axle and a coilover system XD?
