Default Aluminum Tranny Case for Vintage RC10!

SoMmmmmkay Gents, I said I'd be getting a tad more ambitious, so here is the newest piece: The Tranny Case for the 2.25 Stealth RC10! Looking for a 'new' vintage car to start Aluminizing, and I think it'll be the early RC10's. Hopefully this will be Part 1 in a progression of bits to build a vintage ride with some truly low-number & desirable components, eventually resulting in most of the car (You should see the wheels I'm drawing up, Purty Fancy!)

This thing took more work than any part to date. I looked up all the Alloy trannys done since the RC10 came out, and truly believe this dusts 'em ALL. I tried to make these nice enough that even if you have an Alloy tranny, you'll Ebay it away & pick up on of these to avoid embarassment and ridicule from your peers. The main level is cut with a 1.5 mm. mill, so the toolmarks, while glass smooth & easy to buff out if you like, look Great-It added machine time but adds a nice pattern. All edges beveled 45 degrees. Bearing fit and gear mesh Perfect. There are a lot of CNC'd bits out these days, but this is truly a sweet thing to behold, pardon my sayin' so! The spacers are included but not shown, and the way I made these they take a 1/8" shorter screw, which I shall also include (Alloy of course.) This is a prototype, so as usual any little imperfections will be fixed: Production units will be much nicer. (I may get rid of the center rib, or not, but they will look pretty much the same.)

NOTES & SPECS: Bearings, gears, etc. not included (Obvious, but if I don't state it some kid will threaten to sue me.) Alloy is 6061-T6. All threads roll-formed, not cut, for strength. Smells like Aluminum.

Abiddycadabriddy........The RNG has done picked the next lucky chap, and it is......#4, LondonF350! Good for you Mate, though now the other entrants think you're a !#*%$+@!! PM me your details for shipping, you'll go out with the batch in about 3-weeks-ish. You other chaps still have 3 or 4 days to get a deposit in if you like (Of course, you may not want to now, but when you stop crying and cursing, you may think more rationally!)

More stuff to come, Chris REC

Maybe this part won't be something of a larger interest as your previous offerings? I figured there would be more people that would have interest in this? I personally don't think I ever came across an alum. case for the RC10? When I hear RC10 the only thing that comes to mind is "Gold Pan" Then again the last time I looked at the car on the internet was maybe 3+ years ago when it was still pumping with interest from folks. I know there is RC10Talk which I think is a sister site to ClodTalk and even there its been quite slow, and for sometime too! I don't know of much folks who are still heavy in wanting to restore these cars any longer, yet alone hop them up. I could be wrong about it all maybe? But judging by how many folks here have showed interest things seem slim and few.

Loaded, yep, the plan is to do most of the vintage RC10 in Alloy. RC10Talk is indeed where there is a lot more interest naturally: I can't see it being any relative of Clodtalk, as I do not have a good opinion of the main chaps on that site, whereas the TC10Talk bunch is exceptional, almost as great as the guys here!

Interest here was lackluster, but as there are no RC10-based scalers..... Things have been down a lot all over lately: I hesitate to simply think it's just the economy, and have been looking for way to increase biz a bit as well as looking at anything I may be doing differently than before. My yardstick is Scorcher parts, and those chassis did not do nearly as well as hoped, but there are so many possible factors- Maybe people do not like the design , or price , or hear about it in time- All I can do is my best with each item!

As for SCX10 units, since folks already make 'em I naturally am against it. I like to make the stuff no one else is! Chris

I am more than pleased that Chris is giving the RC-10 some love. Although it is not a scale car, the Gold Pan is one of the most sexy RC's ever made (in my opinion, of course). It juts needs more metal...

If you have a look at this build, I think you will agree...

I'm into it also, but, like any relationship, if I show it some love but that love is not returned in kind, I must find a subject that is kinder to me: So, I really hope these parts do well!

Lately I realize that I simply must get the word out to more people. One odd thing about my business model is that a lot of guys don't wanna spread the word so they can have rarer parts. So, after much thought, the only time & cost-effective way to so seems to be.......(shudder).....Facebook. This does not appeal to me as I can't stand the whole social-media thing, as I'm old. It would be business only, as I don't wanna hear from old school chums & ex-girlfriends.

So, I'll check into that, sigh.....This economy is making people do things they don't want to, and a lotta chaps are worse off than me, so I shan't complain. Actually I probably will, you know me! And thanks Mike, each order is truly appreciated to a level people would never guess. Chris

To your surprise RC10Talk was actually created, owned, and ran by Bill Kruger of ClodTalk when some of the Clodbuster folks had voted to a site dedicated to the good ol Gold Pan. I can say right now that word getting out about some of your offerings may not be the thing and maybe it could be because of the interest in quite a bit of folks at the momment. Seems as this point in time people are big into thier 4X4 scalers, crawlers, etc etc, and this market holds own to RC4WDs offerings. I think the whole craze with the vintage stuff kind of died sometime ago and people who love and are into scale rather appreciate something that is replicating either a part, portion, or whole of a true full-size vehicle they would like to have in a smaller size. However this is just my opinion, but then again I guess numbers speaks for itself.

I know having a business you must weigh the demand of something desired by a few, and something in a demand of many, and a majority. Sometimes it can be hard, and sometimes you can hit things dead on when you got that something that oh so many is after.

That does surprise me a bit! When I was new at the computer forum stuff, things were very cliqueish and generally unacceptable to me on Clodtalk: Them Matt invited me here, and what an incredible difference! So I've been here ever since, really love this place. Things may well have changed there in the past few years, and I only speak of my experience which does not mean they suck: I just did not find it palatable personally.

You are correct that there a LOT more scalers/crawlers/SCT chaps out there, and would make a better business decision based on cold numbers! I do like scale, and historically those items have done the best for me all 'round. Only prob is, I'm a passion-driven guy, and love vintage & scale but the crawler thing doesn't ring my bell, and I could give a damn about almost all new stuff and most popular classes- SCT (The NASCAR of R/C trucks,) nitro, road, truggies, etc. I like the oddball stuff- Bikes, Snowcats, vintage, scale, pullers, etc. If years ago they'd have made a bike with tank tracks that was scale and could pull heavy weights, I'd be ALL up in that!

Of the myriad reasons I run things & make things the way I do, one reason is that the R/C market in its entirety is small, and I won't be doing these parts forever. If it was a long-term goal, I'd have to make stuff I don't wanna make just for a buck, cater to a clientele with relatively shallow pockets, advertise at no small expense, maintain an inventory, etc. and all that is exactly what I don't wanna do, and really can't as one guy. I'd only be able to offer a dozen or so parts before the need to do re-runs to re-stock would mean nothing new fairly soon, and worst of all I'd be BORED. At least while I'm not getting rich I can truly be satisfied with every part off the mill and enjoy what is done (After all the cursing & problems, of course. )

There can be no arguing the fact that, all things being equal, if more chaps knew about my stuff sales would increase, hence the (shudder) Facebook thought. One sucky aspect of how I do things is that even if I were inclined to advertise, by the time people saw something it'd be long gone, unless I stocked inventory, and.....You see where it all points.

So, yes, I'm marketing to a minority but do not think vintage will ever go away, even if my making parts for them makes ME go away! I sure wouldn't wanna be RC4WD or any normal type of business. I shall be around for a few years and have no immediate plans to do other than what I'm doing. So, you do bring up some very valid points that my nature prevents me from rectifying. I shall start thinking about more scale items! Chris REC
