Only because it was MDF and in the pure sunlight it looks like the fluff from a tennis ball all over it when the woods been manipulated. quick blast with a blow torch burns it all away and makes for better surface when it comes to paint, Think it maybe a new method I just invented

Got lots done on this with the impending arrival of me monster mamba 2650kv motor and ESC, a summit 2 speed transmission, a Zippy 5000mah 4s 30c battery and Turnigy charger!...

so I will be back on the chassis build soon enough!

I have so far made up some rear lights, front indicators, door handles the front grill, and front bumpers
(not pictured)

I also scribed in the door jams, boot lines and bonnet/hood lines using a sharp edged soldering iron.. seeing as its mainly MDF body I didn't have to worry about grain lines making my lines wander off... needles to say this Idea worked a treat,

after doing this I noticed I have not included the little raised stripe down the bonnet of the escort. so will work on that

what left...mmmmm Trim the window liners, add/sand bonnet do da, sand the whole body back shmoooove.. and then start the prime and paint, I will be going for the red/black mexico theme with some decals..

TAFK

This is an awesome build so far... I hear you with the nervousness about LiPo packs. The wife used to think I was crazy to store my packs inside our BBQ grill... until I showed her some youtube videos of them asploding.

I really like the touch of 'carmelizing' the MDF before finishing. It never occurred to me that MDF fuzz would be enough to mess with primer or finishing coats!

MDF easy to work with but the finish can be a bit fluffy... quick blast of a blow torch and a sealer over the top... now its all smooth.

plus I get as much MDF for free as I like from a friend who works with it..

Builds coming along slowly.. its all in many many parts and needs one big assembley.. jut waiting on motor and ESC

Mail man been.... kind fella from the fourm struck a deal on some parts,

These should get the escort moving

I need to get a bunch of male and female connectors because all the bits I been buying are all different... so some soldeing to do.... also still need that hi torque steering servo..... and need to make a mount for the summit transmission... soooooo plenty to do, no test run in sight yet....still plenty of winter left to build tho,

Got some more done, seeing as I don't have a Traxxas Summit to mangle up I had to make a transmission mount out of wood and some turned ally tubing,

I used a simple clamp from above and below the chassis method works great and its good and solid, I will brace it more with some side mounts and cross members just to basically over engineer it so it wont move at all!!...

I had to mill down an output yoke to fit the Traxxas transmission as I didn't have one the same size as the hyper 7 diff input yoke, this maybe a the week link in the chain of things but better that got bang than the motor/trans/diff etc

This is as far as I got tonight I never make plans or build from them and just wing what ever I build so most the time is a lot of trial and error

Ta ta for now 8

More done, I am getting quite near the end I would say its about 85% done now, and seeing as I only ever get time/cash/space etc to do one big build a year I will get as much use out of this over the spring summer as possible

First off started making the battery box, ESC box and just finding a place for things

Fireproofed the battery box due to the internet; mainly youtube making me uneasy about using LiPo
Also the castle Motor has quit an over hang so I made a support to stop the stress on the trans if I go over any jumps

Here is the finished 'rolling' chassis The steering servo needs fixing in but that's basically it I 'tested' the motor and trans set up by hooking up a 7.2v NiMh battery and yes it had its first drive all of 3 ft across the living room (yes I was frightened to hook up the LiPo in the house)

I also painted the inside of the body.

Slight problem its now at 10.5lbs when the body is on and the suspension is um.... 'suffering'
as cool as it looks in the pic below with the low rider look, it aint going to do to well in the dirt the springs have reached there peek,

I will come up with something to sort the suspension

And yes It needs some paint as its looking tired before its time
