Default DRIFT BUILDOFF 2010 OFFICIAL RULES! sponsored by THE COW RC

WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE OFFICIAL SCALE 4X4 DRIFT CAR BUILDOFF!!!!
SPONSORED BY THE COW RC

Zoom in (real dimensions: 600 x 600)Image

Contest officially begins July 4th, 2010 and will run until September 30th, 2010

Contest is open to ALL registered members of the forums, and you can enter as many vehicles as you wish, however, each much follow the rules to be listed below.

OFFICIAL RULES OF THE CONTEST

• a build thread must be started for each entry. the title must include: "DRIFT BUILDOFF"
you can also name your project if you wish, but at least the title must include "drift buildoff" followed by your user name.
In your opening post you must include a picture of the major components you plan on using. body and chassis. If at the start up you do not have either item, please list what you intend to use, and be sure to include pics as soon as possible and in accordance to the rules listed here-in to prove that the body is new, and unused, or a hardbody for modification alongside your chassis and/or chassis parts.

• the following items must be NEW prior to the build, and you must show photographic proof.
1) body. you may use any clear lexan body you wish. you must show photo evidence that it is new and unpainted alongside the parts you intend to use for your chassis.
hard bodies are acceptable, however, you must modify them from original. Its no fair taking an already extremely detailed hard body and just slapping over a chassis. modifications may include: styrene additions to the body, fabrication of scoops, inlets or vent, or other custom bodywork. ALL hard bodies must be repainted. and again proof must be provided via a pic of the original body alongside the chassis parts you intend to use BEFORE modifications.
ACCEPTABLE BODIES INCLUDE: drift specific bodies such as those seen in D1, rally bodies and ANY body that could actually be a drift car in real life. Obviously a FWD honda civic is not going to be a realistic option here. SO...open to any body that represents a FULLSIZE AWD or RWD vehicle.
Bodies are open to ANY scale as long as they meet the above mentioned criteria and are full running vehicles at the end of the contest.

• YOU personally must paint, build and/or modify the body AND chassis for this buildoff. NO work may be ''farmed out'' or done by any other person, other than yourself. YOUR buildoff thread must include pics of during the buildoff. Assembly, paint in progress, etc.....

• you are allowed to use ANY chassis. HOWEVER, points will be awarded in the following categories, so a box stock RTR chassis will NOT recieve as many points as a chassis you build or modify for this buildoff.
points for chassis will be based on:
1) stock or modified chassis.
2) custom modifications to chassis to increase stability and performance
3) pre-assembled or built for the buildoff. a preassembled chassis will be worth significantly LESS points than one you build or modify. IF you choose to modify an already build chassis, you must again show proof, by including before and after pics of any and all modifications.
4) neatness of layout. are the wires a jumbled mess of spaghetti that looks like total craap or is everything nice and tidy within the confines of the chassis.

• paint work. can you tell time and effort was put into the paintwork? be it a simple two color job or a full blown mural, is it nicely done and crisp? do the colors work together?

• custom touches. be it adding a bodykit to a hardbody, or detailing the crap out of lexan body (wipers, wing, mirrors, intercooler......) the extra things that set it apart from a ''stock'' body or the body before the contest.

• overall appearance. when the body is on the chassis and the chassis is on the wheels and the wheels are on the pavement, how does it look? does it look like a drift spec car? or does it look like a cheesy ricer street racer that has more money invested in decals than performance mods.

All entries will be judged on a point system, 10 being the highest, 0 being the lowest in different categories. There will be several categories including, but not necesarily limited to:

1) originality of design
2) chassis layout
3) paint and bodywork
4) representation of scale (how realistically does it represent a fullsize drifter)
5) overall visual appeal. (all things considered, paint, wheels/tires/etc. as it sits finished, shown for viewing)

There will also be BONUS POINTS awarded for any of the following

1) video of the car drifting
2) full interiors
3) lights and/or sound options

SO.......start getting your parts together, and on JULY 4th, i want to see a plethora of new threads with "DRIFT BUILDOFF....'' in the title!!!!!!!

also, please post a link to your build here in this thread, so igotit and myself can keep track of all the entries and sort out any potential issues ahead of time.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THAT ENTER!!!!!

if you have any questions contact me via PM, or post them here.

A VERY BIG THANKS TO COW RC FOR THEIR PRIZE DONATIONS!!

the runner up will be awarded a great prize donated by Tim_B, this really cool tool box:

[img[http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o183/Tim__B/Product%20Pics%20for%20customers/DVC04380.jpg[/img]

also a great big thanks to Tim for this really cool prize!!

here are some example photos of what i would like to see the INITIAL photo in your build look like, showing the parts to be used, and the unpainted lexan body, or unmodified hardbody with a dated piece of paper as shown:

(and NO, this is not the body or the chassis i will be using for my personal build, this is just shown for an example)

Zoom in (real dimensions: 800 x 600)Image

the next pic is an example of what a modified chassis might include. note the chassis on the left is a bone stock HPI RS4 sport chassis. as build from the box, according to the instruction manual. The chassis on the right is another HPI RS4 sport that has been upgraded with custom carbon fiber chassis plates, homemade upper front A-arm suspension and one of a kind lateral sway bars. (Again, neither of these are the parts i will be using for my personal build, just a demonstration on what a 'modified' chassis might include)

Contest officially begins July 4th, 2010 and will run until September 30th, 2010

Contest is open to ALL registered members of the forums, and you can enter as many vehicles as you wish, however, each much follow the rules to be listed below.

Talon, quick question. What if you are using an existing chassis with mods already made? Do I have to strip mine for the component photo?

Talon, congrats on posting a well thought out build off with clearly stated and easy to understand rules. Should be fun to watch.

I do have one quick question, could you use an existing chassis set up if you start with a new body for it? Like if I wanted to take my 18R drifter in this thread http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/sho...363#post687363 and do a whole new body for it. This build off is exactly what I've tried to do just wish I had waited to start my build.

you can use an existing chassis.
if it is already a modified chassis, you do not have to strip it down for the build, but PLEASE indicate in your build that it was already modified and post the pics of it as it currently sits and how you will be using it.

my thoughts though......and existing chassis will not warrant as many points as a new for the build or rebuild for the contest chassis, HOWEVER, why not do something simple to it, to add points? change out the ball ends from black to RPM colored units, or strip and paint the chassis plates.....something simple and cheap, but still something that will warrant ''customizing'' for the build?

its all going to be about points for this build off. so, the winner (or loser) could come down to ONE LITTLE POINT. so, get all you can. however simply you need to do that!!

the ''component photo'' simply needs to be what you are starting with. If you are starting with a complete chassis then picture it, and list what if anything you intend to modify or change. If your starting with a pile of parts like i am, then post that. And just show your changes as you go along with your build thread.

but yes, a prebuilt chassis is perfectly acceptable.

oh, and if you can get a winnebago to drift, DO IT!!!!! as long as you adhere to the body rules of the contest, why not???

ive seen semi truck drifting videos, a G55 drifting video, even mini van videos, so who says a winnie cant drift do. Im 100% ok with that body, as long as you follow the body rules, and yes, that would count as a hardbody.
