Default Tamiya MFU Question

I have a Tamiya MFU for a truck i'm building and wondered whether or not I can add more led's without over loading it?

I'm building a rigid with trailer and what i want to do is tee into the rear lights of the truck for the trailer lights, rather than running the trailer light socket wires to the back of the truck aswell.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers
Stu

Hey stu,
I recomend you to contact Mr Lights he make a nd sells a switch that you can mount on to the MFU and you can run 300 LED IN A SERIES OF 3 OR 4 depeding on the color.
The MFU can handle a few but not many.
I hope this helps.

You should also try Scott form SS-tronix. he has an infra red set up that runs off the MFU and can add many lights to it.

Thanks for the replies guys,
As I said its a rigid with drawbar trailer, so don't see how I could go the IR route, also i'm talking of adding 1 led to each indicator and 2 stop/tail led's and maybe 2 reverse led's so not a huge amount, do you think the MFU will handle that?
or should I just extend the trailer socket wires to the back of the truck?
Stu

Just get the trailer light kit it makes your life so much easier. The MFU is such a nice unit but it is very very touchie! I don't recomend extending the wires and adding more LED's.

what differance does it make if it's a drawbar trailer or not ....

it works on IR which is like a TV remote, so the distance between the trailer and truck makes no diffeance.

So if i mount the transmiter on the back of the truck and the reciever on the front of the trailer, you think it would work? what about when the truck turns and the Tx/Rx arn't lined up? Does the Tx transmit in an arc or thin beam?
Any idea how much the SS-tronix tx/rx system is?
Thanks
Stu

nope they don't have to be lined up straight, all your turns will work just fine.

there is really a short space between truck and trailer, even with extended rigs still works just fine.

as for price it's been awhile since I bought mine, wasn't much if I remember.

Th IR system is about 150 shipped. To answer your original question the MFU will handle a few extra lights. You can also tap into the trailer plug port on the board for extra turn signals and marker/brake lights. I did this on my tri-axle build, I dont have a trailer so I used it for some extra lights on the truck.
