Maybe that's why Traxxas jumped into the game. They saw HPI barely treading water and they started the freestyle to the finish.

The one thing about Traxxas (and this is not necessarily in their defense) is they have ways of leveraging the industry not seen with other brands. This is fine when they're the ones defining a sub-genre within the hobby (short course comes to mind), but when they're so late to the game, as they are in this instance, and if they try some new shenanigans it could be too disruptive.

In other words, it could end up forcing some new standards that will keep part interchangeability too diverse if they're doing something that's not congruent with what's already been established with Axial, Vaterra and others. I'm thinking goofiness like what they pulled with offset rim diameters (again, short course comes to mind - and in that case it was actually an innovation that was necessary, but I can't see a reason for it in scale offroad). I'm jumping to some conclusions without any evidence to justify worry, so please don't take it as nay-saying alarmism.

I really wish HPI all the luck in the world on this. If their restructuring and new ownership hold fast, they still have a chance to remain viable, relevant and an asset to the industry.

is that $600 US currency or no? I've always been a traxxas fan but that seems bit stupid priced for their first scaler. If that it $600US I hope its one of those cases where they say $600 suggested price but they sell them for $300

I've been reading up on this for the last couple of days, and the only place I've seen that lists a price is from overseas, and they list it at $600 for a pre-order with no release date. the other rumor is that it will be in the $450-$499 range

I've never owned a traxxas vehicle, but I do know they make a high quality product. I almost pulled the trigger on a slash several times, but in the end, I just couldn't do it. It looks like a really cool vehicle, but I can't justify spending that much on an RC truck. I guess I'm still too much of a tightwad.

yeah, I got the $600 amount from a pre-order page on a Geman site. Obviously, we have to wait for an official announcement.

If you look closely at the traxxas since we are off topic and Im reporting to the thread police.....just kidding.

Every thing about the traxxas looks large like 1/8th scale.
The tiny looking steering servo.
The tiny looking battery.
The tiny looking xl-5
All look small compared the rest of the truck.

If 1/8th is what Traxxas is doing, then it fits right into my argument of them forcing standards into the segment. I'm repeating myself - this is fine if they're the only ones in that segment, but Traxxas is over 10 years behind the curve in a very heavily populated genre, and if they try to force the whole segment up to 1/8th scale (which is what will happen because of the exhaustive 3rd party support they enjoy from aftermarket manufacturers REGARDLESS of whatever thing they make) then it could really upset the apple cart. My hope is that it just looks big.

BACK ON TOPIC!!!! I really like the looks of the Venture. It's HPI's best looking and most accurate body in a very long time. I also like the realistic ride height. Why the freaking craphell nobody has a picture of it up in this thread beyond a mobile FB post is beyond me!

BEHOLD!

My first RTR scaler will probably either be this or the traxxas one.

I don't like the FJ Cruiser much but somehow this truck makes it look good enough to buy. The chassis looks good too.

On the other hand. The locking diffs and portals on the traxxas have me intregued.

I like the looks of this one too. I'm just happy to see some new scale trucks coming to the market from big brands! lol
