Yah it's just a single bead of plastic and can be snapped off with pliers, and then cleaned up with a knife. The software creates it if you turn it on.
It's a bit of work to do the clean up but it let's you make parts that you normally could never do...

How much noise does this system make? Can it be used in my apartment or do I need to have a separate room for it? Also are there any significant fumes from the plastic as it is being melted / layered?

There is a small bit of smoke / steam that comes off the print head at times. Nothing that the family has ever complained about. Your not burning the plastic, just heating it enough to melt it. You can always use PLA which is based off corn starch. It's supposed to smell like candy when printing. However its brittle compared to ABS and is water soluble.

Dammit! This will be the 2nd pyramid I have to build in someone’s honor today....
![]() I've been looking at these for a while, didn't realize the price dropped so much lately. |

The rims are done. Currently 3 different styles, 2 different bead locks. They are easy to put together and hold the tire firmly. All that's left is to print 4 up and see how they do in the real world.

Those look really good! I'm curious to know how well they hold up to punishment. Most of the forces the wheels see is shear so the failure will probably happen in the spokes. But I have a feeling these will do just fine.

Another small project. This time a drive sprocket for a Bruder multi terrain loader. 3rd prototype was the charm.

Here's a cool print. Its a gear bearing. No cage is required to keep the rollers in place, because the gears are all herringbone, which is why it cannot be disassembled. It really shows the potential 3d printing has for parts that can be made that would be impossible using normal methods.

Upgraded the hot end to an all metal one with a higher resolution head. (.4mm) Just working on getting it calibrated. I was able to run it at 300 degrees and still hold the other end in my hand. Considering its only 2" long thats quite a feat. This one uses a heater cartridge as it's heat source. I can get up to temp in seconds as opposed to 5 minutes like before with the dual resistor setup. Now if only the heat bed didn't take 15-20 minutes to heat up per print.
