I will have a crack at this one, let's see if an Australian hot rod fits in with you guys.

My car of choice is an FC Holden from 1959, going for a chopped wagon. At the moment it's on a tto1 chassis.

I will start a thread in the next few days, where do I place my build thread.

It has been suggest we have a hotrod build off, and I think it is high time it happened.

Rules will be fairly open, as hot rodding and car customisation is all about, creativity and expression.
  • Every entrant needs a build thread, with Hotrod Build-off in it's title.
  • One one rod per member can be submitted for judging.
  • Entry must be styled on either a Hot Rod or a Street Machine that you would see on the roads in the 50's and 60's - Think American Graffiti. Fenderless Deuces and Shoebox Chevys.
  • Must show some mill. Models must have a dummy engine, or parts there of. If you want to run a closed hood, the hood must be removable to reveal some detail. This is the comfort zone shaker
  • Must be radio controlled and driveable. Reason being:
  • At the end of your build, please post a video of your rod doing a scale 1/4 mile run. Even if all you have to record it is a cruddy cell phone camera, that will do. Let us know what your e.t. is. There will be no judging on speed, but you can brag. A 1/4 mile in 1/10th is 132' (44 metres).
  • Judging will be decided by public poll, that will be open for 2 weeks post the end date of the build off..
  • Please post your build URL below and I will collate them. If you don't link your build thread, you're not entered no matter what you put in the title.

I am allowing a generous build time for this, as life gets in the way of toy cars.

So starting from now, the build off will close in the last week of October. The entrant's final photos will be assembled here under a poll as per usual.

Get the lead out and get building

Oh, the prize... it's the smugness of knowing you won
Where would you like the threads to be located? In this section or the 1/10 on road etc sections?

I'd assume the on road section - I might have said scale 4x2 as most will be RWD but I dont want to seem biased against a 4x4 rod... plus hot rods should be on road.

Obviously mini/micro or large scale can either post in on road or the relevent scale section, but your builds may get slightly lost in all the other offroad/scalers.

I'm not sure Steve, it's part of an experiment at the minute. I have it sat under the bench to record how much dust it can gather.

I'll get it out and have a look see if i have the gear to get it going for this build off.

Edit: How long do we have on this one??

Thinking the end of October, but if we need more time, so be it. Not going to be a meany over this, and I know that life gets in the way.

Spoony is right, micros in micros, large scale in large scale and 1/10th in Car discussion. When you title the thread with the prefix of Hotrod Buildoff it'll make it easy to search. Also remember to link it here so I can move the link to the first post.

I have this hardbody laying around, looks like a good candidate for this build-off.

I'm in... if this qualifies?! It was my first attempt at scale anything... then I found this site and have a little more experience. I would like to start this over and do again. Is that cool? Does it qualify? I would start with remove body mount holes, add engine compartment and put a dropped bed in ect... I just don't know if it's in the right era. Let me know if it will work out?

The era is perfect and since it will be a complete rebuild there is no problems. After all, we probably all will be using recycled parts.
