Default Buggy Champ - nearly stock, but fun!

Treated myself to a Buggy Champ recently so I thought I'd post a couple of pics. I remember being captivated by magazine adverts and Tamiya catalogues when I was a kid so this has finally scratched a thirty-year itch!

Has it lived up to expectations? Oh, yes!!

thanks for looking,
Rob

Mine is still in the box, I need to get it put together. Your Buggy Champ looks great.

Thanks guys.

Not sure about mods yet. I think a front suspension brace is probably a good idea. I'm tempted by the RC Channel rear suspension kit and definitely thinking about the diff kit that's supposed to be coming from Tamiya.

But I'm not sure. Narrow track and no diff mean handling is a bit tricky, but it's very true to the original (I had a 540-powered Sand Rover and that was just the same).

It's pretty stable on dirt, better on sweeping curves. Tighter turns mean you have to slow down and actually drive the thing, and control your acceleration on the way out or it'll swap ends in a heartbeat.

I'm looking at some cosmetic bits, alloy cage and gear covers etc but I'm not sure I want to mod it any further if it takes away some of that character.

I would go with a Team crp front brace since yours is a Buggy champ, the RC channel rear suspension is a nice, the ball diff is out already, I bought mine when I bought my sand scorcher

Thanks for the advice Joat, much appreciated. The diff kits don't seem to be available in the UK yet (or they've sold out already). The CRP looks like it will make it impossible to remove the body without taking the brace off. Is that right?

vwm, I know what you mean, it's an expensive treat. I've been selling off a fairly large collection of slot cars to fund my growing RC habit. I'd like a Scorcher too, looks like some more of the slots are going...

looks great

the diff kit would be worth finding, i really enjoyed driving my sand scorcher on the beach, but anywhere else it would roll due to the lack of diff.

Ah, didn't realise that, thanks. I've ordered one now.

I'll keep my eyes open for the diff, sounds like it's worth having.

I took Joat's advice and got the CRP brace. It's neat, strengthens the front end and is easy to remove. I also took his and Oggy's advice about the diff kit, and they're right - it's made the BC much smoother and easier to control. I've also added Radshape chassis and front bumper and RC Channel rear cage.
Lovin' it!!

Thanks RCJ. Yes, a spare will just about squeeze in there, I'll post a pic later.
