Default Willys Jeep trail rig (Jeep Build Off)

Hereīs my entry for the Jeep build off. Not much to see for the moment though since I havenīt started on anything yet.

I recently found a Dragon Willys Jeep for a good price. I couldnīt resist and bought it although I didnīt want another project.

Iīm going for a weekend warrior trail rig. So nothing too extreme but it will have some extras.

Hereīs what I have planed for it:

Lokcing diffs (Venom Creeper axles)
3 speed gearbox (either Tamiya or Veroma)
RC4WD T1 transcase
Custom made aluminium frame
Axial Wraith shocks
2.2 steelies
2.2 Mil Spec tires
Custom made steel roll cage
Functional lights
And some scale bits since itīs way easier in this scale

I am very excited about this build. It is my first 1:6 too.
But before I can begin with it I need to clean my work bench.

Hereīs what Iīve got so far. Not much really but the most important bit are there already.

Iīve started on the body this afternoon. I canīt do much on it for the moment since Iīm waiting for parts.
But I could at least set it up to see if the tires fit. The final ride height will be roughly the same. Only with an aluminium chassis instead of the duct tape one.

Looks quite good I have to say.

Today I started work on the dashboard since itīs one of the few parts I can work on now. Iīve planned to light the dashboard. First I wanted to do it like on most dashboards and light the instruments from the back. But after some research I found that the Willys has two dashlights above the instruments which are also molded onto the kit part.

So I drilled them out to house a tiny bulb (1.8mm). Unfortunately I drilled a little too deep and had to refill the light housings in the front.

Then I went to the hobby store to get some bulbs. They are meant for model railroads but a bulbīs a bulb isnīt it.

Wired them up.

And: Tadaa! A lit dashboard.

These kits are very cool, one will be coming my way soon.

Here is what CAN be done to these, crazy scale although it is not RC, still the fab skills are unreal.

This is just a short note to remind you that the Jeep Build Off is about to come to an end. I understand that sometimes life gets in the way and we can not find the time or money for our hobbies. Heck I started this whole deal and I didnt even start my Jeep. LOL

If you are getting this, I do not have your photos and can not enter you in the voting poll. If you are finished and want to send me your photos to be entered. Please email me at minifaron@yahoo.com by Saturday 11:59PM.

Thanks, Faron
