Default Is a 1998 4x4 Chevy Suburban any good for offroading?

I am considering purchasing a 1998 Chevy Suburban (or similar model/year). I am wondering if it is any good for off roading? Nothing too serious. I am just wondering if it is trail capable, like a little bit of mudding and some trail riding (hills etc.) I do not intend to do any rock climbing or anything that serious. I am looking at the K1500 4WD with the 5.7L V8. I do not intend to do much aftermarket either, I prefer not to have to lift, but tires, bolt on engine performance, and other smaller or easier/inexpensive upgrades are a possibility. Your response and help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

that is a LONG truck and low to the ground so your gonna have to add a lift kit to get some decent tires under that girl. Now the next problem is the front IFS system, which is absolutely fine in stock trim but once a lift is added and larger tires them front ends just fall apart. Id look for the 2500 Sub this way you get a beefier transmission larger rear axle and HD front end components that can handle a slightly larger tire. Next Gm motors are HP monsters, install long tube headers, nice single free flowing 3" exhaust (not Flowmaster) a nice mild cam to the motor and a handheld tuner (id suggest a custom dyno tune though) and youll easily have 330-350 HP at the wheels

It'll be a good mud truck, but probably not a good trail rig. Too wide & too long, but lots of motor & drivetrain should be tough. I prefer Jeeps (XJ's) Cherokees, they're cheap, and with a little lift & trimming you can toss 35's under them if you get the right drivetrain.

5.5" of lift, 4.56 gears w/lockers & 35's.

like he said an xj is much better it is not only smaller but has a solid front axle. suburban would be good but xj is better. you probably want a solid axle in the mud it keeps it cleaner.

That may be exactly it, so I included the proper place to post it up if so!

At least the recent spam hasn't been too annoying, I haven't seen any auto-posting bots lately
