Default Caprinut builds a TA02 Zakspeed Capri

This summer have really not been kind to me, hospital, liver disease etc.

So to cheer me up I need a project.
And some weeks ago I got a dirty TA02 for free in a deal.

And this is what I got.

Before I got cleaning the chassis I wanted to find out what this started out as.
The seller had no clue as he got it in a previous deal.

My clues was 17t pinion, the narrow rally front bumper and TA01 suspension with 255mm wheelbase.

The only cars to have those parts fitted as standard are the 58136 Toyota Prerunner and 58146 Chevy S10.

All parts cleaned up very well, even the bearings were good.
Need a couple of new parts, but not much.

Here it's all cleaned

Now, what to do with this chassis??
I kept coming back that my uncut and unpainted Zakspeed Capri body from my TT02 kit still needed a chassis as I sold the TT02 one.
The TT02 chassis do not trigger any of my love at all, so I sold it last winter.

One problem I could see was the wheelbase issue as the Capri has a 251mm wb, and the TA02 255wb.

Turns out I was very lucky with mating this two.
With just fitting the rear body posts from the rear of shock tower to the front without turning them, the body matched perfectly.
With a bit lowering, the wb is spot on too

Spot on at the rear

Same at the front

The mock up wheels is a bit too skinny for this, so I got thinking where did the TT02 kit wheels go as they are staggered.
I did not sell those with the chassis.
Turns out they was on my TL01 chassis I have in the cabinet in the living room.
So on the TA02 they came

The TL01 also donated the shocks as my TA02 came without any

And yes now we are talkin'!!!!

And fitment under the rear arches are good

Front too

Then the body was cut.
I use lexan scissor, I don't have a steady enough hand to cut with a knife and snap.
I've tested in the past using scalpel, and have ended up ruin a good body, so scissor it is!!

In the rear I may make a diffuser like the real deal.

This is gonna be the white Würth version, as that is what I have for decals.
But I think I need to make a fleet of these with most of the livery they had

Great Job! I love when a project comes together like this! I use a 1/2" (12mm) sanding drum on my dremel along with a steady hand for cutting wheel wells. It has never let me down.

Thank you guys
I'm not that steady with a dremel either, so haven't tried that yet.
Maybe if I get a body I have no interest in...

For the next week and a half, I'm lending the real deal from a mate.
This is his spare 85' 2.8i Capri I picked up from storage yesterday.

Last year I drove 600 miles in that same period.
Can't wait to the Capri meeting next week

Sweet build "caprinut"
Can't wait to see you work your skills on this one.

I'm always interested in these little cars.
We've talked before about them...
The guy I know outside a little town not far me still drives one daily, and he just did the parking lot racing at the local high school with his modified one.
Plus he has a pretty cherry yellow one all stripped down on a body stand.
A very unique car for the states here.

They always grab my attention when I see one.
I give him some 50 seires tires for his daily driver last year for free.
My father sold him a ford 8 inch pinto rearend he's going to convert for his racer..
Just awesome little cars.

Keep the updates coming...Going to be sweet.
