Default Sand Scorcher switch cover

The rubber switch cover on my re-re Sand Scorcher is already perished and has splits in it.
Anyone else having the same problem, or did I get a bad one?

I think we got our scorchers about the same time and mine is fine, could it have got any chemicals on it?

No chance of that, but it is sitting near an evaporative aircon vent.
Do you think that could be responsible?

I've got the Rough Rider tires on and they are fine, the sand tires are in the cupboard.
