Some of you may have seen my metal bodied trucks such as Wrinkles
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7893 Joe's Flatty http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14034 And the comp tuber http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21350 Well for a while now I've been wanting to build some demo cars the had realistic damage so I decided to make some using some old RC10 components I had lying around First off I had some simple flat chassis made up at work out of stainless ![]() ![]() this gives me 4 equal cars for a kind of "spec" demo then I installed the mechanical parts I had lying around ![]() and dropped in some electronics to make sure it all worked good ![]() Then I started the bodies I used the same molds I used for my wrinkles project since they were the simplest to make ![]() then I glued them together to make the basic shells ![]() Next I got started on the floor of the cab. I crabbed some crappy aluminum and cut it to the shape I needed ![]() then glued some reinforcement to make the supports I took thin strips of aluminum and formed them over 1/4" square brass tubing ![]() Then I test fitted it to the chassis ![]() then clamped the body on to see how it fit ![]() Looks pretty good I think ![]() More to come! Thanks guys!
They are just wood carved to the shape I wanted Defiantly! and the raider body should be a piece of cake to replicate Quote:
![]() Well to make the truck as realistic as possible I needed firewalls, so I bent up a simple front one ![]() Then I formed the rear of the cab and gave it some ribbing for strength ![]() Then tested the fit ![]() I also needed inner fenders of course ![]() ![]() Then I made a rad support which consisted of a body mount made of heavier roof flashing ![]() ![]() glued to the rad support shape ![]() |

Trust me, the truck might look good in pictures but i'm building it fairly quickly and i'm not concerned about getting the metal nice flat and clean. heck it even has rust holes!
![]() ![]() More progress Before I glued the body on I wanted to make a bumper. It needed to be stronger then the panels of course, so I bent up some roof flashing ![]() and glued a mount to it ![]() to attach it to the chassis I made a plate out of brass tubing ![]() It should be very secure and still bend if hit hard enough here is the bumper in place ![]() then I glued it all up and gave it a quick coat of black ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I better shot of the bumper mount ![]() and just like the real ones I has bolts holding the hood shut! ![]() ![]() next it's on to the bed |
