Default Rougher & Tougher: the Land Rover Challenge truck

There was a moment I truly believed my needs for RC models were satisfied with my 2 Land Rovers... Boy was I wrong ... And worse: I was so stupid to tell the wife

Well, long story short: here's another Landy build
Don't worry though... There are more fine rigs other than Land Rovers on my wish list (Hilux truggy, Jeep Wrangler...) I would like to build one day, but this Landy have to be done first...

The 'What's better than a Land Rover' (http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/sho...=17883&page=16) build started as the build of a pretty standard Land Rover equipped for serious off-roading but this bit-of-a-compromise-rig wasn't satisfying my needs enough... So another Landy had to be build.

The blue 'What better' Landy had to be the pretty standard station wagon (and so it is right now) and the new Landy would be an hardcore off-road machine , something like this

Not a monster truck, but a true rougher & tougher off-road machine

Spec
  • MSD UTE chassis 12" (ordered) with Greasy Pete's great rear bumper (ordered)
  • TLT axles (ordered) with RC4WD portals (ooh yeah! - not yet ordered)
  • Semi truck 3 speed tranny (in house) together with the RC4WD T-case (not yet ordered)
  • Coils and shocks set up according to the real trucks
  • HPI stock rims (need the 0mm off set because of the wider portal axles) modified with The Scale Shop rock rings into fake beadlocks (not a new idea, but I like the concept > see pics) or... RC4WD widelock true beadlock wheels, both in combination with RC4WD Mud Trasher tires, including spare (ordered a long time ago, could arrive any minute)
  • Hong Kong hard body hacked into a 'homemade' modified pick-up, just like some of the 1:1 trucks
  • Shipload of scale stuff from Stefan's scaleoffroad shop: dummy winch (for a start ), winch bumper, snorkel, emblems, high lift jack etc. (in house)
  • Diamond plate on fenders (in house)
  • And finally... I'm intended to build the tube cage around the cab myself , first brazework...
As you can see, a shipload of stuff in house, enough to start at last, another shipload on order and in planes on their way home to Holland from Hong Kong and America and another ton of stuff which will be ordered soon but have to wait on some improvement on the budget side of this story...

Guess this build is gonna take a while... just like the first. So, not quite Pantablo's murdering tempo but more that of a turtle on a steep uphill slope

Finally, sorry for all the talking > onto the pics:

After this... Get that Dremel howlin'

Pfff, result not too bad actually.
Used the chassis from the blue Landy for this quick and dirty mock-up... couldn't resist it and thought you might like it as well
