Thanks everyone! Yes the whole chassis is TIG'd.

Sorry I haven't be updating this. the family has ween sick the past couple weeks and that severely hinders progress but I finally got the motivation to get back onto this. My wife actually had to kick my but to get working on it.

Anyways I got a good bit done the last couple days.

First off I finished welding the lower control arm cross member and tacked it into place

then I started on the cage

The cage will have cues from Poison spider customs cages so i started with the front hoop

I had to dog leg the down bar just a bit to get the right position on the foot

Then I bent up the halo

Then tacked it into place

Next came the bars behind the seats. These were a bit challenging. I wanted to mimic the angle of the front hoop and that came out pretty well

but the tough part was getting the bar up past the inner fenders

they also taper in as the meet the halo which make for a tricky compound bend but it worked out ok

next was the rear bars. I wanted to mount them in the tub so everything would remain removable so i whipped up some plates. One is tapped the other slips the screws through

then I secured them to the tub sandwiching the body between them

then I ran the bars from the halo to the mounting plates

then to support it I ran tubes from the chassis to the lower plate

then the last thing to go on was a few bars to finish the top

Now I'm beat! I hope to get the rest of the cage tacked up tomorrow as well as the rear tire carrier.

Night!

Thanks again guys

Got the rear tire carrier done last night keeping with the Poison Spider Customs theme.

Started with some mounts similar to the ones I made for the axle

then I tacked them to the bumper and added some small tubing inside them

next I bent up the stinger and tacked it into place

now for the tire mount i bent up some small sections and tacked them to an old axle shaft with a washer

and tacked it into place

starting to look like something now

Here is is folded down

and how the tire is secured

Now the top mount. I made up some more tabs

then tacked them to the tub hoop

and finally added some more bars

Turned out real nice and works good

Here is a shot of the whole chassis so far

and with the body on

Enjoy!

I don't know about that. I guess we'll see once it's done.

Well I have a little update.

I looked at the front of the jeep for a long time and finally did it

Yep, I just couldn't stand the grill hoop any more. It was bugging me being smaller tubing so i wacked it off.

Up until now i was having problems bending the 1/4" tubing real tight but now that i found my brake line bender i could fab up the right hoop

I like it much better now

While I was at it I also trimmed the front frame down

and added the bumper.

The stinger will go on later

The last 2 days I spent time finish welding the cage and frame then i re-attached the suspension to work on the shock mounts

This time in the front I secured the axle a bit more firmly then the duct tape i had before

It's just threaded rod bent into a U then through a plate. It's temporary until i get the right solid rod. that will get bent then tapped at each end for a more realistic look.

eventually It will also have centering pins in the springs once i get the final spring packs made up and the axle centered properly.

then I mocked her up to get a good look at her as she sits now.

This is pretty much how it will ride when it's completely done. I'll need to play with springs once i get everything loaded onto it. this thing is going to be one heavy pig! it's already heavier than Joe's jeep and this has no running gear electronics or accessories!

more to come as i get the time

Well it's ok. Not as good as i would like it to be but i am getting better

Here is some of my more recent welds

Like I said they could be better. Right now i'm using 3/32" tungsten and .030" MIG wire for filler rod. I'm going to try to switch to 1/16" tungsten and .025" MIG wire to see if I can get the welds even smaller.
