I wanna see some scale crawlers with full (note: not just front) independent suspension. I know it's been argued over and over, indy's not as good as solid axle, blah blah blah I don't care. I think the point of a build-off should be to push the entrants both creatively and technically, and I think this one will accomplish both. Here's some inspiration:

I have a DF01 and a Slayer body I was thinking could make a cool truggy. Gearing sucks for a crawler but would be a cool wanna be.
![]() This may be a build off I might actually jump in on. |

Sweet! I just like to find things that get people thinking in ways they're not accustomed to. That's when real progress is made. Anyone else interested?

i'd not be interested in being part of it, i cant finish a project with NO deadline, sure as hell cant finish one on a deadline, but i think it would be very interesting to see what people came up with.
the potential for great things is out there. ive considered several times using TLT or Hilift pumpkins, making them into independent drives and using a portal on the end for extreme ground clearance, but its one of those things that looks great in my mind, but i'll never get around to doing. (so now that its out there, someone feel free to use the idea and see how it will work!!!!) |

Even if no buildoff comes from this discussion, I hope it can at least get some ideas moving in peoples heads. If anyone else has any other ideas for how something like this might work as well, feel free to post up and discuss!

Well SORRY !!! but its was not about throwing a body on to any ******* avaliable trail chassis.
Not every one can afford a nice shiny machined alloy chassis that cost's $100 or bushless running gear. My idea was ment to level the field of play, so that everyone taking part would have fun . I know budget is know replacement for talent, never said it was. |

easy killer. the point that sloppy was trying to make i believe is that a budgeted build is a great idea, however, it DRASTICALLY limits the potential.
say you put a 500 cap on it, and 20 people enter the contest. your gonna get 18 axial scx10 TR chassis with different bodies, the battery moved around and some different anodized colored links and a fancy body and people are gonna call it a custom. your gonna get one truck with a chassis that is cut from aluminum flat stock that looks like the guy chewed it into shape, its gonna be a dog ugly, non performing, paperweight, and your gonna get one guy who TRIES to build everything from tubing, but eventually over shoots the price cap. basically, again, a price cap in a full custom build off drastically reduces the amount of new ideas and possibilities. sure, i can build you a c-channel custom chassis with a four link for well under the cap, but so what. its been done ten thousand times. thats not the point of this buildoff. this is for new ideas, pushing the envelope, thinking outside the box of common. and about not being able to afford a chassis that costs hundreds, that defeats the purpose again. its about MAKING SOMETHING new and creative. so what, i can spend a thousand bucks on a chassis, its still been done before. and will be done a hundred times again. its NOT new, its NOT creative, its NOT the point of this build at all. |

Good...
Stu's zombie wagon things is a crap *** old Touring car.. and he probably has about 40 bucks in styrene in it. some scrap used tires. I will go out on a limb and guess its a sub $200 build.. and You think a budget cap will level the playing field? People that complain about cost's clearly lack imagination and money.. |

Woah, calm down everyone. I opened this thread to get ideas and opinions on a buildoff, and axial basher provided just that. Everyone's ideas are just as valid as the next. In this case though, I think that putting a price cap on the buildoff would limit the eventual possibilities for entrants. But as it has been pointed out, that doesn't mean someone couldn't complete a rather cheap build and still have a unique, original result. I think price-capped buildoffs are certainly doable, but in this case isn't the best format. Let's keep the ideas coming though people!

I keep wanting to try an IFS front, solid rear truck like a pre-runner or similar. Seems like a good build-off idea since I haven't seem too many guys build them.
