don't matter what year as soon a it hits 150k is when you have to worry about them

![]() i just drove it for about 1 hour,ive determined i need to pull the head.
runs flawless with radiator cap in vent position,but when i close the cap properly smoke starts bellowing out the exhaust.once she warms up really good the throttle response is weak. at this point it could be either the head gasket or head,or both. im fearing the head because she runs worse as she warms up....due to metal expanding when heated....a tiny crack would open. but still not getting water in the oil,or vise versa. im assuming i have the rf1a t case L45 4 speed tranny heres a few pics of the under side! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() front axel ![]() t case ![]() rear axel ![]() under floor board and chasis,minimial surface rust! ![]()

I didnt like how the seller posted pics with blocks and a piece of cardboard to lay on when he looked at something underneath,none the less I think it was still a good buy from a dishonest seller

![]() Oh i agree.... The seller knew what was up,after 30 mins of talking to him and looking over the truck.... I knew his hustle.
I would had bought it for that price with a locked up engine. Rot free body, working drivetrain....well worth it.

![]() maybe some good news!
ive pulled the carb and intake,the intake gasket between the #1 intake valve. water port and #2 intake valve was washed out. this allows water from the water inlet to enter #1 + #2 intake valves. there is still antifreeze sitting ontop the intake valves. ill still pull the head,that way i know what ive got,and do a ndt crack test,check for warpage....ect....along with some pm work. ive ordered the rock head gasket set.....is the supplied head gasket any good? also does the rock set come with the exhaust gasket set? but after pulling the valve cover....the oil turned gray.....not looking good! Tomorrow evening ill pull the head and timing setup. Ill know more by then. Ive got to get up for work in 6 hours.....lol. also the 2 bbl is wired closed,just the one small barrel working. so carb rebuild is in the future,changing all vaccum lines,along with all rubber under the hood. i did find some rot and bad rust beneeth the battery. this 22r has the dual timming chain. heres a few pics! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() got the head off....the head gasket was dry rot!
im hoping that was my problem,will check the head out tomorrow. one thing i dont like is the pistons are rock .50 over....i was hoping stock. cylinders are glazed but still usable. hg washed out between 1 & 2. suprized it ran that good. trying to keep my hopes up about having a good head....ill find out soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() also found some rot/rust on the cab ....under the battery,ans a few spots on the wheel wells.
the cab floor was sectioned and repaired by a body shop a few years ago. im very excited and happy about my yota deal. still worth the money. i cant believe i have the legendary yota axels.....1 5/16th shafts with 30 spline,8 inch ring.....tuff little axels! gear drive t case.......the list goes on!

![]() I don't know if you could put it in this truck or not but I have a 1991 Yota 22R Motor that I need to get rid of if the motors in those are shot. Nice little projects you got going on!!
