got my dream car back kinda (long story)

history on car is a long one, car was built by my grandfather in early 80's for my grandmother to drive on nice days.(my one uncle painted the Yosemite sam on sides when he was in high school I believe) She drove car for few years then got a vw bug conv. and stopped driving the dune buggy, when I was little they took me for drive in car once and then it was put away. Car stayed in storage for over 25 years having stuff piled on it, only being pushed out of garage once to clean garage and put it back. My grandfather died on my birthday last year , leaving his cars to my mom (a restored super bug with 2110cc motor and the 65 dune buggy) but put my "other" uncle as executor of will.....he sold the dune buggy without telling us till much later,family feud pretty much ensued and we thought car would never be seen again.... sunday the dune buggy resurfaced on local craigslist so I bought it for twice what it was sold for ( I couldnt let it go again)

and now its mine lol sorry long winded story I know, I do plan on customizing car a bit to make it "mine" I'm sure my grandfather would approve since he liked to tinker with the vw's so much

btw the tires are over 20 years old, my grandfather stored them indoors hanging from the lug holes so tires werent touching anything, they all look new lol

Thats a great find, I dont blame you a bit for buying it back. Did the previous owner who bought it from your uncle modify it in any way or is it pretty much the same as when your grandpa built it?

guy never even sat in car,needed space in his garage for anther bug he just bought (2004 ultimate edition mexican beetle)

title is actually still in my grandfathers name too, thing is like a time capsule lol ...shag carpet as seat covers and headliner included

thanks man! not seeing the car for almost a year then seeing it listed on craigslist gave me chills, I was basically unable to sleep sunday night into monday waiting to hear back from guy if it was even still avail (i called and got voice mail sunday)

forgot to put my b-day is dec 4th so that gives timeline idea

already did small mod, got rid of the over-ride bar on front and cross bar (both were little bent to begin with )

That is a great story! Thank you for sharing. I just started collecting vintage RC models from my past and I can relate to how important that car must be for you. Sorry to hear about Grampas passing.

I dont know if you have kids but if you do make sure to make a will. Every freaken family has the same feud BS you guys had.

I hear there is something like ewill.com for like $25 bucks you can make one and keep a copy in safe place. ;o)

So, did you tell the guy (after you agreed on the price) the history of the car?

I actually told the guy a bit of the history on phone and told him I would be there with cash in hand and please not sell the car to anyone else lol.

no kids and really no plans on having them, which leaves me at a odd spot for my "legacy" vehicles (my mom gave me my 69 chevelle and now my grandfathers dune buggy)
