They didnt have toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash or proper dentistry either...

I expect it must be darwinism... those who had crappy teeth found it harder to eat and died out, therefore people with strong teeth survived, meanwhile those with the whitest teeth were considered most attractive for mating and therefore the race evolved bit by bit to produce whiter & stronger teeth...

If you think I'm going outside in this wind you have another thing coming!! Let alone erect a huge pole with a glorified clothes dryer on the end.

Anyway, I'm not paying 10k+ for something that's going to reduce my bills, it will probably brake before i get any benefit from it.

i was in the toilets at morissons yesterday, when a member of staff walked in and started spraying air freshener about, then the dumb idiot sprayed me straight in the face with it:rant::rant:

next thing i know, i can't breath and my eyes feel like they are on fire

they called an ambulance, that took me 200 yards to the hospital next door, had my eyes flushed and was put on a nebuliser for an hour, i was released after 3 hours

the manager has spoken to me since, and he said i can have some vouchers for free shopping the next time i go in:banana:

I've been saving for a good Quad many years now, and last week they finally had something around my price range, so I went for it :)
I've wanted one like that for the better part of a decade, and now things are finally getting economically stable for us.
I'm going to use it for joyriding and plowing snow (not at the same time :D) in the winter, and general exploring in the summer :)

Found a source on the keybed I need. It'll have to come from England as no one here in Barackistan will get one for me. Approx. $300 for the keybed alone, plus (I'm guessing here) another $200 to ship it from the UK.

All I gotta do is decide what I'm doing for the "brain" of the keybed electronics. Just writing to let you know, the dreadded has happened

I regret to inform you, that..

*pause for drama*

I stubbed my toe whilst walking to the front door this morning.

The reason for my (now troubled) venture, was a sudden, loud knocking upon the fixture placed upon my front door. The cause of this knock was a man dressed in red bearing a parcel.

I opened the parcel with due care and attention (How much packing tape do you have? :P) and to my delight, held within the cradle of brown, very sticky, packing tape, was a collection of assorted power supply units. Commonly known as batteries of the seven-point-two stick arrangement...

The batts came mate Thanks for such a cracking deal!!

Thanks again Oggy!

Hey Rag, $200 for shipping sounds a lot. If it were cheaper for me to pick it up & send it, I'd gladly be the middle man.

It's…uh…well…hmm.

Naw, I need an 88-key controller for my music. My hands have been getting considerably worse and the only way to get a well-made 88-key controller is with a fully-weighted keybed. Fully weighted means mas paino for my hands, so I need a semi-weighted. Fatar, an Italian keybed manufacturer, makes an 88-key semi-weighted keybed but no one uses them in their keyboards/controllers/workstations. Therefore I have to make my own by getting a "bare" keybed assembly and the rest of the components I need.

BTW, I isn't not going nowhere this morning, or possibly the next 24 hours. We had a major ice-storm in the night and everywhere looks like it's been coated in glass. I'll get some pics when the sun decides to come up.

Something like that had occurred to me - that is bugging one of you guys in Ol Blightey as a go-between. I'm waiting to hear back from the guys at Keyparts.uk for a shipping estimate. The $200 was something I just pulled out of the air - I have no idea yet what it will cost. When I do I'm sure I'll make some kind of noise about it. :nice: If it's a little prohibitive, I'll consider your offer for sure. :chug: I do know it's going to be somewhat large. Here's the product page: http://www.keyparts.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=23&category_id=9&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=55

The bare keybed itself is about 48.5" long x 8.67" deep x 3.25" thick, and probably around 10KG, but I have no idea what the container will be.

According to the Royal Mail price finder (http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder?catId=23500532&gear=pricingcalc&campaignid=pricefinder_redirect) a package large enough to contain that, weight 12kg, and insured for up to 200, would cost 124 to post. Would need your full postal address/zip for a more accurate quote. But that should be a reasonable ball park figure.

Ragnarok
11-22-2010, 11:11 AM
That's actually more than my $200 estimate. The thing is I gotta have it. I'm going to contact Doepfer in Germany (the only other source on these) and get an estimate on shipping from them. The only thing is I really can't find a price on that specific keybed. They have the 76-key listed but not the 88-key model.

EDIT: Holy @#!$ - I put in an estimated size and I ended up with a "volumetric weight" of 135KG because they said those dimensions exceeded the maximum for regular service. It ended up being 697.79 :cryin: I can't do that!

I am of the opinion that its better to buy from vendors who can actually add-up properly though, I mena I guess these key pads aint lightweight but best part of 700 is needlessly steep - it would actually be cheaper for one of us to fly to you with the 88 key thingumabob in our luggage and deliver it to your door at that point I think...

With prices like those I'm better off scouring eBay for used (and likely beat-up) Studiologic VMK-88 or VMK-88 Plus keyboards as they were the only semi-weighted 88-key keyboards with aftertouch in any kind of production. (Found one on eBay just a few minutes ago - they do show up from time to time. Not horrifically expensive, but it ends soon and I don't have the fundage at the moment.) I was going to buy one or two to cannibalize for this project but about a month ago I was told by the one remaining source I could find stateside that they've been discontinued, hence my quasi-frenetic search for a bare keybed.

I hate buying used in cases like this. It's an issue of hygiene first, mechanical soundness second. You never know what has been done to the keyboard (dropped, spilled adult beverages, etc.) or if their studio cat has horked or shat all over it at some point.

This is that little complication escalating into a maddening hemorrhoid I mentioned earlier. :nono:

damn I thought I got burnt shipping a king blackfoot to the US for 39!

I believe you are right Spoon, I was able to find tickets to Ireland a few months ago for round trip for just under $700. Didn't end up going but still the airline ticket would be cheaper, and as far as I know many shippers use the regular airlines to ship their stuff. So the concept makes no sense.

Strange, I got a volumetric weight of 9 kg's!
Whatever... I wish you luck in your endevour... and the offer stands. Let us know any time you need shipping assistance! :chug:
I have a buddy who is a bit of an expert on keyboards/synths... I will see what he suggests re sourcing one of these! :nice:

Boy, I screwed up. In my dimensions I put stuff in as mm, not cm as it asked, so it was ten times bigger that it really is. <phew!> Not so bad after all.

Here's the basic estimate…
69086

And the "find exact price" estimate…
69087

THE GAME IS STILL AFOOT!!!

Speaking of.. Have you ingerlundians seen the forecast for next week? 8" of snow, and there predicting temps of -9C (15F) up here? WHAT, my kitchen was 6.4C 3 weeks ago, -9C is beach weather!

Here it is:

An arctic blast is apparently set to sweep the country in the first big chill of the season.

As winter takes hold, temperatures will dip to minus 9C (15.8F) in northern Scotland while maximum temperatures in London will hover around 2C (36F).

Areas which have been warned to expect "significant snow accumulations" include Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and East Anglia.

Forecasters said northeast Scotland was expected to experience the heaviest falls, with 20cm (8in) predicted.

Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said: "As the winds turn more northeast or even northerly, any showers across Scotland are likely to turn increasingly to snow over the hills.

"But snow is also possible even at low levels into Wednesday, with the wintry shower risk extending southwards into northeast England."

By the weekend, the Met Office predicts snow to fall "anywhere in the UK" but eastern areas will experience the heaviest falls.

The colder weather also means frost and icy conditions will be widespread.

While freezing temperatures are set to last well into next week, forecasters have suggested the biting conditions could abate later in the season.

the only real problem we have here is temporary staff delivering unrecorded mail (especially around christmas time, they tend to open cards to see if there is cash within).
but as yours will be fully insured and registered i can't see you having any trouble.

UK peeps, you read about the new plans for council tenants??? if you get a job or a pay rise you have 6 months to get out of your council house and either rent private, or get on the property ladder, everyone will also be reviewed every 2 years......

No wonder the que for people leaving the UK is 5 times longer than the one for incoming.

Now I have to get my "artist rendition" drawing revised.

That's not bad at all. I got a quote a while back to send a rig ( around 5-10kg ) to the US and was coming in at over 80:crazy: But if i wanted tracking and all the other bells and whistles, i was told over 100.

That's what I thought. This keybed isn't going to be all that heavy - just really long and skinny. When I pull the trigger I expect it to actually be a little higher anyway. If I was loaded I'd get three of them so I had a pair for spare parts.

I'll give the cleaned up version.

So this guy assumes his wife is cheating, he buys this parrot from a guy who says it is better than having hidden camera. Only trouble is the Parrot does not have legs, it uses it's manhood to hold on to its perch.

Anyway guy goes off on his business trip, when he comes home he asks the bird what happens, bird tells him about the women getting undressed and there being a man in the bed. The guy says well what happened? Parrot says don't know after she got undressed I got an Erection and fell off.
