Hi lilsami87 - Thanks for checking back - I am planning an "in action" video.
In fact, I've already started collecting some footage - Here's a sneak peek

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, to the Junkyard !

Now I pretty much got all my parts designed and fitted - though that rear sun shade still needs work ! - it's time to strip this Scorcher back to its bare shell, and start the final paint job

I'm going for a rusty, weathered look for this Sand Scorcher, partly because I think it looks cool, and partly because it's a very forgiving approach - chips and scratches, or my favourite - peeling paint layers off when you're only trying to remove masking tape - won't matter so much, and will become part of the final look

So, I've got a Sand Scorcher shell - already painted with different shade of metallic acrylic on different panels - but importantly - two coats of tough satin acrylic varnish that has dried for several days ( at least )

Next - I masked off various panels ( again )

And then when at it with an enamel layer of rust and grime - I used a matt enamel medium that you mix with "weathering powders" to make up your chosen colour, and you mix it down (and clean up) with enamel thinners - keep the window open !

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, to the Junkyard !

When enamel paint was finally dry - it takes days, rather than hours - all the tape was removed, and the remaining panels were worked on to a lesser degree, the dried paint can be worked into with a brush and enamels thinners, the paint underneath is protected by that double coat of acrylic varnish

the effect of runs and rusty drips can worked in with the thinners, even once everything has dried - sometimes letting everything dry off, and then selectively removing or adding is a good approach

I'm going to allow some bare rusty metal to be showing through, but I'm going add some colour that takes inspiration from the Tamiya box art - where you see blue in the box art will be lime green, where you see white, will be bare rusty metal

So, I masked off everything that I don't want to be green

Running low on masking tape, I improvised with some cooking foil to complete the masking off

Even where I'm having green paint, I still want it to be patchy, peely, and have rusty spots showing through - using a latex based masking fluid, I further masked off areas and spots where I want the rust to show through the green. It is opaque purple when wet, and dries to a shinny see-through film

Then the paint ! Firstly, two coats of grey "undercoat" acrylic

And at lastly - three coats of lime green gloss

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, to the Junkyard !

It's hard to wait for it to dry before "the peel", overnight is definitely best

IMO, It's both the best and worst part of the paint process - watching your look emerge from the mass of masking tape and latex fluid is very satisfying after all that prep work, but when paint layers peel off that aren't meant to, it can be stomach churning trying to minimise the damage

Here's the freshly peeled Sand Scorch body shell

Some of the grey undercoat acrylic is showing through, where the green and grey have peeled slightly differently

The edges of the green are very sharp and needs softening. The beauty of this layering of acrylic varnish, then enamel, then acrylic gloss is that the enamel "rust" can now be reworked with enamel thinners and a brush to make the rust spread, drip, and soften the whole effect, but leaving the green gloss, and metal undercoat unaffected.

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, sit back, take stock

So, I couldn't resist dropping the newly painted Sand Scorcher bodyshell onto the chassis, and seeing how it looks - still plenty of paint work to do on it - the window and door frames, stills etc, and a whole heap of weathering. But here's the paint work so far
