It looks like they took a Hilux and put on the front fenders from a Tacoma (basically the US version with different styling, even though they're vastly different). The headlight angles and that aggressive front fender look very much like this:

The rear fender and back window doesn't, though.

Toyota's in South Africa are the most widely used pickup's. I would be suprised and shocked if that is not a Toyota Hilux. Which year I would not be able to tell.

I LOVED the film!! Completely different and unusual, and not knowing any of the actors(no Bradds and Hugh's playing themselves) made it even better. It is soooooooo setup for another film though, district 10 perhaps??!

Ian, have a google look here for some pics!!

Those military trucks rule!! Almost like a tank only faster!!

I always thought of building one of these, being a square-ish boxy shape, could not be too difficult to build from scratch!

Hey Ian, just take a digital pic with your cam of your computer screen paused. Would that work?

The pickup is a 2006 Hilux, ~37" tires, modded ARB bumper, tube armor.

I sent my buddy in S Africa an e-mail and he told me it's a 2006 Hilux, modified of course, he is a freelance news cameraman, he is also trying to find out who did the custom job.
Some of the vehicles used in the movie are old SADF armoured vehicles that were developed during the border war, one of which is the 'Caspir' APC.
Here is a website with lots of info on all the vehicles and equipment we used when I was in the army.
http://www.satruth.co.za/equipment.htm
Due to international sanctions ect. we had to develop a lot of our own stuff and the Unimog was one of the most popular foundations for the various anti landmine and armoured vehicles we used.
