I see how you all are,

I am currently looking for a new full size truck, so very little work has been done this week on the stang. I am still in the design stage, so there are some things to be worked out, ie materials for chassis and roll cage. I am hoping to make this thing fly, so I am not sure that a brass frame would hold up, but I am still thinking of using brass for the roll cage.

Here are some pics of the body dissassembled, and nothing broke, but it did take a few hours to get everything loose.

Amusing how in the 1st pic, Mr. Kitty is like "Wassup here?" and in the second he's outta there: Must not liked the flash. Chris

I will have some shots for you all tomorrow. I finally found a 1:1 truck so now I can pay attention to the stang. I started the chassis tonight, It will be strong, but light being made from aluminum channel. I found some steel gears for the drive line, it will have a gear ration of 2.27:1. With the gear ratio of the rear end and the size of the tires, a 30,000rpm motor should get it close to 40 mph. Of course this is only on paper right now, so I had better get to work.

Ok, I am not too sure of the gear ratio, but my thought is the jeep weighs 12 pounds and is powered by one 27t motor and it does pretty good. My target weight for the stang is 7 pounds and I will power it with 2 15turn motors, so 2.27:1 does not seem too crazy. Also remeber that is just the transmission. THe axle has around 2.6:1 gear reduction so the overall gear reduction is closer to 5.9:1. Also remember that the tires are only 2.2 inches tall, so its not a lot to get spinning.

I called my sister tonight (i am the electrical engineer, she is the mechanical engineer and her husband races 1/8th scale gas cars), according to them, every 1 oz of rotating mass that I remove from the drivetrain will be equal to removing 3 oz of weight from the chassis.

Here are a few shots as the parts get lined up. The aluminum you see is making up the center section of the chassis. It is square to within .004", I figure this may be important at top speed. You can also see that twin motors will fit fine under the hood.

WOW your jeep weight 12 pounds  I thought Pitbull was heavy with his 7,5 pounds

5,9:1 final sound very different ;) will be very fast but the TL01 with a23T pinion is 6,57:1 so that seems to be a good fast ratio.
I thought 2,27:1 was the final.
Why twin motors?
