Scratch built Aluminum Series III Land Rover...New Pictures!!

Hey Munster,

I'm asuming the body of your scaler is 160-165mm wide? It's gonna be hard to make some axles to fit under there. You might want to scratch build some with 1/16 differientals. Now where can you get cheap (durable) 1/16 diffs?

Also I really like how you used a drill to make a lathe

What about fitting a ball diff? A lot smaller than a gear diff.

Building from scratch is all hard but worth it (I think)

Measuring across the same section as on the 1:1's the mini mine is 168mm, at the fender flares it is 180mm (the actual scale is 1/9.7th but close enough to say 1/10th )

Using a T-Rex 44 mini on the rear (158mm hex to hex) so should be close and diff housing is similar shape to my sailsbury, for the front I will narrow a yota axle..... And if you know of a suitable 1/16th diff....do tell

Thanks, drill seemed easier than by hand tho the side and rear fogs were by hand

Yep been looking for ball diffs will be easier when I get my mits on the yota axle, take it to LHS and rumage through their kits! (i know them well enough )

What an awesome build! I love the series land rovers... especially the ones that have the headlights on the wings like that. I have to say it though, and i'm sorry: The body looks soooo good, but the flares kinda look like they're made outta playdough. Maybe a bit more sanding would help them look better? I don't know. Anyway, I'll never build something like this so I'll just stop talking now. No harm meant. Wicked truck!

Thanks for the compliment, as for the flares, I supose they do look a bit like playdough, but then so the ones on the 1:1

That rear axle is still a tiny bit to wide to be honest, about 3mm on each side even after I thined down the hexs, but it's close enough not to bother doing more work on it
As for the yota.....dunno yet, but I think it will involve a hacksaw and a file

This will be the first axle I've narrowed so I'm open to suggestions, if not I'll think of something and let you know how I did it , come to think of it, this whole build is a first for me so I'll guess continue the "I'll figure as I go" method......well it seems to work

Thanks bud, I've got some ideas floating around for the axle I'm happy with the flares too, well they look like the ones on the big one....

One thing tho, you may want to drop "soon" from posting a vid..... Still a way to go before then me thinks

I need to cut 1 cm on one side (less work)
And I think if you could do some final pieces of the axles Axial and others.
A "cap" or terminal attached to the spindle bearing with two screws.
Would be fragile if the axle is sanded to fit a 1-2 mm tube to join the two cut parts?
I guess I was wrong and the translator explained finish the job. Look for a pencil and paper ...

For the rest, all right, but ... those wheels are not LR! (Just kidding)

I think I understand your thoughts, I have decided to cut 13mm from both sides in order to keep the diff housing on the correct side (yes, more work but looks better and keeps the prop shaft in line with the gearbox output ).

The final pieces of the yota axles should work OK and the axle tube is thick enough to be filed down to fit a collar, this is my plan anyway!!

and you are correct, the wheels are not LR, they are made by Weller for the big one and RC4WD for the little one

Looking good!! Looks just like your 1:1! I'm just not feeling the bruiser chassis under your landy though, any plans on doing something to it? Or you making a new one from scratch??

Not many "thingy's" left to do though! Wiper blades, mirror, stickers, grille and front bumper. You should be done by friday then!?
