The black rims do look the part. Yellow, chrome or white (being typically what you get from Tamiya on trucks) just would not work as well. Just watch your body posts - I have seen a few with broken ones, so it might be a warning.
Have you heard of the "5th shock" modification?. People put a shock running from the front of the gearbox, to control the hopping under gas. I would try it myself, but I'm going to 4 link my Pumpkin.

The Pumpbox series was the peak of "Fun r/c's to just enjoy driving". I had a Pumkin way back when 1700SCE's were a rumour. Now I have another, and I have to admit the only gripe I had with these cars has been fixed - The inclusion of double balljointed tie rods.
You buy a buggy these days, and run it for fun... It's possible, but it's still designed for one thing - cutting laps on a prepared surface. The Lunchbox is just a slap in a pack, and you get instant giggles anywhere you use it.
