we are out in the "boonies" so to speak, mostly farmland and farmers.. we gave up our landline years ago in favor of cell phones for one simple reason - cost.

the landline was costing us about $40/mo, and the service was horrendous - as in every time it rained there would be so much static on the line you couldn't hear the person you were trying to talk to. Reported it I don't know how many times and it was never properly fixed. they needed to run new lines but that is expensive and not enough people out here to make it worth their time.

Cell service is so-so here, but at least it actually works well enough to hear and speak normally to whomever you are talking to.

want internet? you have basically 2 choices.. satellite (with data caps and dropped service in crappy weather) or radio towers (line of sight, and hope for the best) - no DSL, no cable. not enough people to make it worthwhile to lay the infrastructure.

oh, and internet speeds SUCK! 2 or 3MBps download.. yeah, screaming fast..

My landline is super cheap and reliable but old school. Internet in B.C. depending on whose service you are hooked up to is fiber optic ran along the power transmission lines with fiberoptic drop to the house. just a tiny little thread connected by a worker with all the fancy tools. The potential for anybody to opt for the quickest internet available to them rests in what speed they want to pay for, no hardware upgrade neccesary.

Us old school RC bikers have the same problem. Anyone who grew up building models and understanding the value of how to scratch build would appreciate the DIY approach. I've had a father offering me money to build his kid a pinewood derby car....simply because he either couldn't do it or couldn't be bothered by it...sadness abounds.

I'm Not worthy
I'm not worthy...
I still feel like a noob to you OLD Members...OLD HEHheheh

I seriously can remember accidently stumbling upon this forums....
Was in total awe of what was happening with RC trucks and cars.
Being hard pressed for cash back in the days...young family etc, This hobby was for me cause I could scratch build on a super tight budget.
And the peoples where all super fun and just silly besides some truly amazing builds.

I'm still building, mainly for me and my sanity ahahahaaha
I too don't do the social media things on the phones.
I'll keep building and posting up here as long as your all along for the journey's.

Thanks for putting up with my bad "grammer" zpelling and lots of ………dots.

Just doing what I do and enjoy.
Hope ya all do the same.
Be safe and keep on truckin.
Walking the fine line between Realistic scale and RC functionality..

I have to agree that i miss the former classifieds, here and RCC. Everything now is just kit partouts. I just recently built a TLT axled rig, and still build most of my rigs the OG way, but have pieced together a few rollers with parts off of Ebay. Many good deals there sometimes, built 2 venture sliders for <$75. I also dumped my FB account and most other social media, except "linkedin" for job. This place suffers from ads as much as RCC; its frustrating at times when you search new posts. I'm sure ya'll have had to deal with that too. I just hope that this forum and the other one stay around for a while. I also need to post up a few of my recent build starts.
Buying lots of parts, but haven't built a rig in years

I kinda feel bad that I'm so inactive here any more. I don't do a lotta monumental builds, but do do a few things that may be of interest- Just gotta hook up my old 1 megapixel camera again so I don't hafta re-size cell phone pics.

I've been working on a product that I should NEVER have agreed to do, & it has taken me over 2 years (!?) so ain't had nothin' newfor a while: But I will again soon & will resume my giving away a free one to a Scale 4x4 member, the only place I generally do that. Yeah, it is marketing in a way, but really I just like to offer something besides hot air & dumb jokes to the forum. This has been home for a LONG time since Matt originally heard of me somewhere & invited me here: At the time, long ago, the few forums I tried were chock-full of anal retentives, smarmy types & just she yit attitudes. This one was exceptionally cool. helpful & not snotty to members nor allowed same- Still hallmarks of the place, and some of the best builders on the 'Net.

Next item, hence next giveaway, will be the dress-up kit for the RC4WD V8, and it MAY have a Blower this time- It'll be a few weeks yet, but it'll be nice to make a member's day again. The 1st run were not my idea, a member here suggested 'em and it was Yuge popular- So, remember, I like ideas from you chaps! I'll try'n post something I'm working on too. Been off-track for a bit, collecting mini arcade machines & rebuilding a Schwinn shorty Sting-Ray, but after a break I always come back to RC. Chris REC

LOL You really hit on some key points there. I agree this site is top notch for anyone that enjoys scale models. Seeing the scratch builds, fantastic detail, and engineering.

Nice to see you again Chris

I hope I win something this time too, this is the only site I'm lucky on

Still a hardcore rc fan, and have both built and remain on forums even as I use FB.
Main reason I use FB is to stay in touch with friends, got the lastest rc news and genrally get info about stuff I'm intrested in.
And due healt issues, I'm mostly stuck at home.

But I do miss the action this site and the other forums I'm on.
I hope these times, people are start to using forums again and build stuff.

Did 2Beers mention old members?
