![]() So I've never used a 3d program before....I'm currently flat broke so trying to use freebie setup here but cant get it to work.
I converted my files from PNG drawings I did in MS paint to the SVG it wants but they are still just flat in the tinkercad setup. It's like I cant get them to lock together to form the 3d model, tried watching some YouTube vids on it but all I get is people drawing an all new pic in tinkercad itself. I have a front, back, left, right and top view I drew out to be as close as I can get them but I'm lost lol. |

![]() there is a steep learning curve to any 3d modeling program.
my favorite for simplicity, by far, is 123d design... made by Autodesk. They do not support it anymore, and pulled it from their website, but it is still freely available from multiple sources. there are some excellent tutorials on youtube that can you get you going with it pretty quickly. If interested, let me know and I can link you to them |

![]() I'll check it out and see what I come up with. Thanks Heartless!
EDIT: Looks like I might be SOL. I downloaded 123d from 2 different sources so far with 0 luck, first time it locked up everytime I tried to start the program and the second one now locked up after I imported the 1st file and got it aligned . Maybe my old laptop cant run it or something but have no problems with movies\games etc so I dunno. Windows 7 and such like they require too. Last edited by 350TacoZilla : 11-06-2019 at 06:36 PM. |

![]() i think your svg file might be 2d. try getting it to stl file, that will help, and you can 3d print from stl as well
i just drew shapes like squares and rectangles and gave them a thickness. here's my a/b double in tinkercad with my (modified from somebody else's) design air ride

![]() Yeah I am trying to take 2d drawings and use them to make a 3d model. So I had seen a tutorial to convert a PNG to the SVG then link them together using tinkercad.

![]() that may be tough, say for instance if you take the side of a car in 2d, you could rotate it up to vertical, but you wouldn't have any depth information so it would be like looking at a picture. are you trying to get a 3d model to print?

![]() thinking that you need to try to find a way to extrude the 2d drawing, Taco...
Tinkercad & 123D are by the same parent company.. 123d will also allow you to import an svg, then extrude it to give it depth.. perhaps the same in tinkercad? (i dont use tinkercad, so have no idea) |

![]() Yeah I can pull it to extrude depth but I cant seem to get the pieces to lock together to form a complete model, looks more like 4 cardboard trucks got in accident rather than 3d model.
I'm not looking to print, I should have said that. I just wanted to play around and have a 3d model I could play with different colors and such. End up with having maybe 3 different styles of the same basic truck. I'm not sure on the 123D since it locked up each time I tried to use it. |

depending on your computer, yes, 123d can be a bit of a resource hog. it likes lots of RAM |
