Default 1/6 Hemi powered Willys Hot RAD ***Update 11/14***

Time for another project.
I found the next large scale project I want to build, for now the main subject will remain a secret until I get more parts together but I do have the power plant thatís going into it.

I am going to modify it from strip to street use. Iíll be adding alternator, water pump, upgrading the ignition and the like to make it street friendly.

Here it is in stock form.

As you can see, the valve cover is upside down, thought this was funny seeing as it was sold complete as a collectible.

Here are some pics of what I am after.

Here it is in hand and stripped down. All the chrome will be stripped, trying for the polished aluminum look instead.

Chrome all stripped off.

Looking at the plastic hoses, ya that just wonít work. Time for real SST braided lines. Much better !!

I will be doing a complete MSD ignition system as well.
1:1

Start of my version. Just Paint so far.

Next we need an alternator. I had one from another engine, not to bad in stock form but it needed detailing.
Stock

Here is mine so far. You will be able to see the windings when I am done. Took me an hour to carve out all the openings on the bottom and sides.

Well that is all for now. There is a lot left to do on this and I am waiting on more parts.
Keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks for watching.

Hmmm, I'd have to say on road for sure.
I need to source some more parts before I show what I am trying to build.

RANT TIME

Anyone ever use the Testors Metalizer paints? ...Great stuff actually but a couple things to remember.

1) Make sure your part is as smooth as a baby's butt or every little blemish shows up. No really THAT smooth!!

2) Be gentle with it, it is a fragile finish.

3) The stuff gets everywhere while spraying.

4) Be gentle with it, it is a fragile finish.

5) DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT cover with sealer of any type or it will go from a nice looking too fragile to touch with out leaving finger prints polished aluminum look, to a , silver paint !!

One other thing to remember , if you use the Castrol Purple Super Clean stuff to strip your chrome, DO NOT cover it when you add the parts painted with the metalizer ..................IT EXPLODES after some time !!!!!!!!!!

Rant over

I'm curious...watching.

Good info on the metalizer. I used the buffing aluminum spray before, and it turned out pretty good. Is that what your using?

Yes it is, the issue I have was not prepping the parts well. I stripped the chrome, cleaned well and that was it. To the touch and eye they looked good but once the metalizer was on you could see all the defects in the plastic. The parts I am doing are too detailed to get a smother finish all over. I am going to try one more time after getting them the best I can and see what happens.

Have you cleared or sealed yours?

You got Purple Stuff to explode?? What are ya doing, filming an episode of 'Myth Busters'?

I'm gonna take a guess at what you're building- You're gonna detail the snot out of a Traxxas dragster?

If I'm wrong, give us a hint. Will the new vehicle fit into the scale garage?

That engine in the new traxxas drag car with the body off and a couple of panels on the frame would look sick. Hmmmm now I'm getting ideas.

Anyway the engine is coming along nicely. Can't wait for more updates.

LOL, it was pretty funny actually, it looked like a shiny Alka-Seltzer foaming mess.

Not a Traxxas Drag car, this will be 1/6 scale as well for the garage.

I think this will be a little too large for the Traxxas, soon enough I'll post up a pic of the inspiration on this one.

Small update.

Worked on the exhaust, heat weathering done.
Before weathering

First step, gold tint.

Done after blue tint added

Finished the Alternator

Finished the coil

Polished aluminum finish is drying now. More updates later.
